preface
Sometimes we want to share screenshots of the games we have but not on steam, ie. Xbox gamepass games, exclusive esuc--i mean epic games etc.

When we share these screenshots, as Non-Steam games, they will appear in our gallery but they won't be shown on your timeline activity, there are multiple way to circumvent this, the technique i am sharing is the most straightforward one (that i know) without 3rd party tools.

process
  1. from steam client > View > Recordings & Screenshots
note: if you don't have any images here-- just open a random game, even your non steam game and press f12 to capture a screenshot using steam overlay. Even the game startup screen is ok.

  2. right click on a screenshot of the game, select Show on Disk

  3. There should be file explorer opened, with the path like this:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[yoursteamid]\760\remote\[gameid]\screenshots

  4. Go up 2 directory to the remote folder

  5. Create folder 753
note: this is a one time process, if you already has this folder, you don't need to re-create it anymore, just open it and go to step 7
tips: if you are playing the game using steam client (adding non steam game) and took the screenshots using steam overlay (f12), you can rename [gameid] folder instead to 753 and go to step 8

  6. Open that folder and create folder screenshots

  7. Open that folder and put your screenshot file here. make sure it's a .jpg file

  8. restart steam client (Steam>Exit)
or press windows+r and paste this
    steam://exit

  9. when you open steam client again and go to Recordings & Screenshot, you should see your custom screenshot. You can just right click on it and share on Steam as usual. It will be displayed on the activity timeline under the category Steam

notes
There are advantage and drawbacks of this method of course,
The advantage is it's simple, fast and doesn't rely on other app or tools, just the steam client!

The drawback is; when you click the steam category, there won't be screenshot or artwork subforum there, if you want to have more community to see your shot, you may want to use steam's application like shareX, wallpaper engine, etc that can record your screen.
Those applications have their own community subsection including screenshot and artwork galleries.
