How to Move Your Old Character to a New Map
By Bif
These instructions will help you to move an existing character to a new, untamed map. You will keep only what you have on you. But if you're bored of your map or the map is starting to get corrupted this guide might be your best option.

Moving On
To move your existing character to a new map in 7 Days to Die:

1. Open your old map & make note of the name of the map, for example Navesgane. Make sure your character is ready to be moved. Especially get everything in your inventory you really want to take with you. Move to the middle, & I mean as close to the exact center of the map as you can estimate. Save & exit the old game. Kiss it goodbye.

2. Start a new game with the same map, Navezgane (or whatever). Load up the new map with a new character. Wander around a little so that it saves. Exit 7 Days to Die to desk top, completely get out.

3. Locate the player files in the old world's save folder. They will be in the Player folder \in the old map's save directory.

Here is the most likely path to your saved games:

C:\Users\YourAccount\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Saves

4. Copy the following files:
-> EOS_nnn.ttp
-> EOS_nnn.ttp.bak
-> EOS_nnn.ttp.meta

Don't cut & paste the files, just copy them. If you leave a copy in the old game, you have an escape route in case you run into trouble. You won't run into trouble, but let's be safe.

5. Paste these files into the Player folder of the new world's save directory, overwriting the existing files. The new player you're deleting is just a newby, but if you really want to you can rename the files. It will work just as well.

6. Launch the new game. Your character should now appear with their previous level, skills, and inventory.

These instructions are for essentially the same map. If the new map is roughly the same size, you might be okay. Moving to a larger map will often land you in a body of water or the middle of a POI. Moving to a smaller map will put you out of the mapped area.

Hit me up in the comments for additional instructions if you are changing map size or doing anything other than getting a stable place to play. I'll help you to the best of my ability.

Your best bet is to give a new character a new military outfit using the GiveSelf console command. These console commands are beyond the scope of this guide. Googling "7dtd console command GiveSelf" will score some good instructions. You want armorMilitaryVest, Boots, Legs, Helmet, Gloves.

You can also edit the current save file, especially file's version. Otherwise the save file can't be loaded up, since the save file knows what version it belongs to. It's a .ttp file that is partially compiled, so editing it in, say, notepad ++ would be risky. Visual Studio can do it better.

Google will tell you to use the 7DaysProfileEditor tool to modify & update your save file. I tried the tool & it can be made to work but will require a little coding experience.

Here is the location of the profile editing tool:

Hi, Jessica. It seems unlikely that your alpha 15 character is compatible with beta 2.0.

Saves from 1.4 aren't compatible with v2.0, so you were stuck anyway. Sorry about that.
