What is this about?
Selecting the x264 video export option in Awesomenauts replays currently fails. This is because the server that provides the necessary files is offline. With this guide, you will learn how to manually download the correct file, place it in the game's folder, and successfully export high-quality videos ready for editing and sharing.
What is FFMpeg/x264?
FFMpeg is the tool that contains the x264 video encoder. Awesomenauts needs it to save your replay as a video, but the automatic download is broken. We're simply giving the game the missing tool.
Step 1: Open the Awesomenauts Game Folder
The easiest way to do this is through Steam itself.
  1. Open your Steam Library.
  2. Right-click on Awesomenauts.
  3. Go to Manage -> Browse local files.
A folder window will open. From there, navigate to the correct subfolder by opening:
Data -> ReplayEncoder -> ffmpeg-gpl
Keep this ffmpeg-gpl folder open for the next step.
Step 2: Download the File
Click the link below to download the FFMpeg essentials build. This is a direct download link for a .zip file.
Save the file to your computer. It will most likely be in your "Downloads" folder.
Step 3: Place ffmpeg.exe in the Folder
Now, we'll move the downloaded file into the game folder.
  1. Go to the .zip file you downloaded (e.g., ffmpeg-release-essentials.zip).
  2. Open the .zip file. Inside, open the folder that appears, and then open the bin folder.
  3. Inside the bin folder, you will find the file ffmpeg.exe.
  4. Drag ffmpeg.exe from the zip window and drop it directly into the ffmpeg-gpl folder you still have open.
Ready to Export
That's it! You can now launch Awesomenauts, go to your replays, and the "Export Video (x264)" option will work perfectly.
