Tips and Tricks
  • The value of the rewards rapidly diminish the lower you go down the list.
I usually don't use the box for anything past step 7 in case I find something that it can synergize with.

  • Blights don't count as curses, make sure you have something with a red border and negative value in your inventory if you are trying to get a neutral/fragment perk

  • Fragment perks are typically used only by the programmer class, although they have plenty of those fragments and are unlikely to actually get them from a Helpful Box

  • Most valuable rewards are, of course, the class and species perks. The most common ways to get those are either by starting without one (unlocked at level 39 and 40) or by selling your previous class/species via the "Trading License" consumable or exchanging it for something else via the "Equal Exchange" consumable. The "Laboratory" event will also work."

    • Note that losing a class/species perk will not remove the associated cubes from your inventory, but if the perk's effect added an extra cube to your hand, you will lose the bonus hand slot.
(Eg. Dwarf doesn't have to take anything out to put Stone in, because it comes with its own slot. But if you remove the "Dwarf" perk you will have to put Stone in one of the other slots, competing for space with the rest of your cubes.
    • Losing/gaining a class/species will affect the associated value 50 perks from appearing in rewards. If you know what you are/aren't looking for, this can be sometimes even helpful

    • Upgraded "Reusable Trading License" and "Returning Helpful Box" perks can quickly make you very rich and powerful as you keep selling your class/species and gaining new ones after every battle.

  • The "Laboratory" event can be very powerful in conjunction with Helpful Box, allowing you to walk away with 3 class/species perks if you have the consumable.
    • Option 2 and 3 will leave you with either two species or two classes respectively, allowing you to fill in the gap.
    • Option 4 will also allow you to use the Helpful Box, as long as you use it during the consumable/class/species selection prompt, before you "claim ownership" of the new perks.
You can even attempt to do this without having Helpful Box at all in your inventory, as you will have 2 selections of 3 consumables each, giving you a chance to luck out and roll a Helpful Box.
