In this guide I'm going to tell you what awards are and what they offer.
What is an Steam Award:
A Steam Award is an animated item that you can give/receive on any content that is created and shared on Steam.
These items can't be traded and cost Steam Points.
The person that receives an awards is gifted a portion of the Steam Points.
To gift an award, go to any content you like and click on the Ribbon symbol.
What do you get:
You earn two badges, one for getting awards and one for giving awards.
These badges when hovered over will tell you the total amount of awards you have gotten so far or how many you have given so far.
The first badge (Community Contributor) is for receiving awards.
The second badge (Community Patron) is for giving other people awards.

Awards are given by spending your Steam Points, which you acquire by purchasing games or DLC on Steam and by earning awards that are given on any content you made, reviews you made or your profile.

When you receive an award from another user, you will gain 10 XP for the first 100 awards and 1 XP for every award following that.
The same goes for awarding another user with an award, you will gain 10 XP for the first 100 awards and 1 XP for every award following that.
This XP is used to level up your account.

You always get 1/3 of the Steam Points that it costed the user that gifted you the award.
For example:
If you get the "Hot-Take Award", you will gain 100 Steam Points, because it costs 300 Steam Points to give.

It will take 14 days to get the points into your point shop wallet.
The badges and XP that you earn from the awards are instantly awarded however.
Restrictions:
You can only give awards to game content you also own.
For example you own Fallout New Vegas, you can give awards no problem.
But you don't own Call of Duty Black Ops 2, you can't give any awards to that content/guides.
Awards and cost:
Alternate way of spending Steam points:
Say you got a bunch of awards or bought a bunch of games and now have a stock pile of points.
But you don't want to give out awards, instead you want to use them for yourself.
You can go to and hover over the store tab, in the drop down menu you can see an option for Point shop.
In this shop you can spent your Steam Points on various things to upgrade your profile:
Backgrounds
Stickers
Showcases

You can also buy a seasonal badge, 1000 points per level, up to 40 levels and each level gives also 100XP.
Checking your awards history:
When you earn your first award on your profile, it will show a new tab at the right side above your inventory.
If you click this, it will redirect you to a page where you can overview all your awards gifted and received.
