How to fix Asphalt Legends crashes without a proper reason?

So ever since the game celebrates 20th Anniversary (July 2025 update), the game suddenly decided to become unplayable.

For some Windows users

1. Go to a partition

C:\users\"your username"\AppData\Local\Gameloft\Asphalt 9 Legends\Cache\popup_lib_wd

2. Delete everything inside of popup_lib_wd folder

3. Enable Read-Only on popup_lib_wd, apply to save it on a properties

Be aware of the pop-up limitations for the game, but it should prevent crashes

For Linux users and Steam Deck users

1. Go to a partition

/"Your_Steam_Library_location"/steamapps/compatdata/1815780/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Gameloft/Asphalt 9 Legends/Cache/popup_lib_wd

2. Delete everything inside of popup_lib_wd folder

3. Set popup_lib_wd to Read-Only mode instead of Create & Delete mode

Be aware of the pop-up limitations for the game, but it should prevent crashes

Thanks, that works in Linux! It's even better for me now, because I wanted to get rid of the annoying pop-ups anyway.

Bestätige die Funktion. Nobara Linux 42, AMD Ryzen™ 7 7800X3D, Sapphire Pure 7900 GRE. Sobald der Ordner (popup_lib_wd) geleert wird startet das spiel normal. Den Schreibschutz des Ordners verkneife ich mir, der Fix wird hoffentlich kommen.
