"This painting was inspired by maintenance work being carried out along the Comber Greenway. It captures my impression of a stump left behind after the work was completed. What drew my attention was the way the branches seemed to move and swirl, almost as if they were alive. The effect was intensified by the way the light struck them so strongly, making them stand out and giving me a unique perspective on their form and motion. I wanted to capture that sense of movement and resilience. Since the bush was cut, its core was exposed — something that resonated deeply with me, as it reminded me of the vulnerability I felt during my own experiences with homelessness. The painting reflects both the fragility and quiet strength that remain even after being stripped bare.
