To start, whenever you’ve created a new radio channel folder in AppData/LocalLow/Pastaspace Interactive/Underspace/Music/ the game will read any .wav files within and use them as songs. The original system for this (found in this guide here) is still intact, but the game now features an enhanced version that can play under much more specific circumstances. This’ll still require a bit of setup, but you’re competent, right?

Within whatever radio channel you wish to use, create a new file called radiosettings.json. You’ll have a setup that looks like this. The game reads this .json file; the settings within determine what music in what folders will play in what situation. This json file holds a list of each individual setting, and each individual setting is composed of four variables.


radioChannelID: This is the internal ID of the station, boss, region, or star system where this music should play. There’s a list of these things below, but you can also use the helpsystem and helpstation commands in-game to find these.

radioChannelIDType: The archetype of this music scenario. 0 is region, 1 is star system, 2 is station, 3 is boss. If the archetype is wrong, it won’t play in the scenario you’re expecting.

radioChannelPath: The file path of this scenario. It’ll pull from any correctly formatted .wav files. Note that this path extends from the subfolder of the radio channel. So don’t put AppData/LocalLow/Pastaspace Interactive etc, etc. For example if you put "VARegion/Explore" in a folder labeled “Goon Tunes” the file path it’d read would be “AppData/LocalLow/Pastaspace Interactive/Underspace/Music/Goon Tunes/VARegion/Explore”.

A scenario folder can have multiple .wav files in it, and it can also share that folder with another scenario.

radioChannelScenario: The sub-scenario where this music will play. This overrides the normal AMBIENT/BOSS/EXPLORE/etc folders that the base radio system uses. It also can make it play in individual rooms. This only really applies to the first three (region, star system, station) archetypes.

If the radioChannelIDType is 0 or 1, radioChannelScenario will be based on the player’s current actions in space. If it’s 2, it’ll be based on the current room they’re in on a station.

To wit: For star systems and regions radioChannelIDType is 0 for idling/exploring, 1 for ambient/nebulas/asteroid fields, 2 for clearings in fields, 3 for storms, 4 for pre-combat, 5 for in-combat, and 6 when fighting a boss (that has no scenario defined).

For stations, radioChannelIDType is 0 for anywhere, 1 for docking/landing bays, 2 for bars, 3 for equipment dealers, 4 for traders, 5 for shipdealers, 6 for data centers, 7 for any unrelated rooms, and 8 for any house.

I’ve included a brief example radiosettings.json file.[drive.google.com] You can copy and paste a channel each time you want to add a new scenario, but keep in mind that each scenario must be separated by a comma, but the final scenario in the file must NOT have a comma. If these are missing, the game won’t read the file correctly. The same goes for quotes, other commas, etc. You need to keep the same


One final thing to note is that when the radio system can’t find a matching song in your radiosettings.json file, it’ll default to using the original radio system.

These are the internal IDs for all the bosses, regions, star systems, space stations, etc, for the game. There's no order or formatting for these, I'm afraid.
