Description
"...Hold on, you did say you wanted a powerful revolver right? We ran some numbers with the measurements you gave us, and the best we could do was scale up a few of our existing revolver designs. We ended up with a large bear-sized handgun that weighs a ton. I can't imagine how you intend to fire a gun that b-

Customer?

Hello?

Sorry, I thought my phone had malfunctioned. I could have sworn I heard...

Right, The gun you ordered may require a higher caliber than you specified, and I would advise you buy some sort of tripod to mount the gun on. We've included a custom attachment kit for that purpose.

...Ok, the reason I called. The guys and I were wondering, how on earth do you plan on firing a gun that big? or even carry it for that matter?

...

Hello?"

I was going through, cleaning up my workshop, when I found this guy in one of my trash folders. Mostly incomplete, I decided to bring him up to speed and submit him. I took a drastically different approach producing this weapon. For one, the entirity of this item is hand-painted in Blender, rather than in an external tool. It is also the first weapon where all the animations were done entirely outside of Blender, and instead in Source Filmmaker.

Sadly, due to some changes to TF2 since the last time I made a weapon, I was unable to demo the weapon ingame against bots like I normally do. As such, I compiled a few of the animations in the SFM short featured above. They are a lot choppier due to the lack of animation blending, but at least you guys will get to see them. I also made a sample sound effect for the gun firing, which is included in the video as well.

I originally made this item to promote one of my videos, but quickly scrapped the idea when I realized I didn't know how to animate for TF2. That was then, this is now. The gun features full animations for the Heavy in first and third person.

Version 2

I've uploaded a reasonably sized update to this item. Most of the fixes are related to material problems and animation stuff. The weapon fought me the whole way, and as you will see in the updated demonstration, swapping out the stock shotgun for a custom non-shotgun weapon causes quite a few glitches and problems. Not just with the Heavy, but the game in general. This is mainly the reason why I left in the footage of the Engineer and Pyro using the revolver as well. It illustrates some of the problems you can run into when skinning a shared weapon.

The verdict? The weapon is as functional as I can make it. The stock shotgun appears to be one of the hardest weapons to do animations for. Not only do you bork up 4 classes by replacing it, but its animation timing is very strict and somewhat unwieldy to animate for. I'd call this item a "prototype" at best, an illustration of a different weapon for the Heavy. I left up the old video so that the world animations are still viewable. I will not be doing a demo for those.

There will not be a skin for this weapon, as I cannot find a reasonable way to replace the stock shotgun and not bork the game. That, and I'm quite tired of fooling with this weapon.
