Using the wrong type of train in Quick Drive (panto/3rd rail)
By Ewo
A very short guide on how you can select the "wrong" kind of train for a Quick Drive route. So that you can drive an overhead electric on a third rail route, and vice-versa, because that usually works. No extra tools are required.

Introduction
When using Quick Drive, the game strictly enforces you to use the "appropriate" train types for routes. However, trains that use a pantograph will usually work on third rail routes too, and vice versa. This guide will tell you how to do this, so you can drive whatever train you like.

The Krokodil on the Portsmouth Direct line.

An AP Class 456 running under the wires in Carlisle.
Steps to take
1. Pick a train of the appropriate electrification type for the route you want to drive. Or just pick a steam or diesel so you can choose from all the routes on your computer. I'm picking the little green tank engine because it's conveniently at the start of the list.

2. Now choose the route and pick the start- and end locations. Woking to Guildford on the Portsmouth Direct Line for this example.

3. Finally, pick the train you want to drive. Here I've chosen the Krokodil.

That's it! With these three steps you can drive anything you want.

If you want to run an electric train on a diesel or steam route, you'll have to edit the route I'm afraid. No need to add overhead wires everywhere, just mark all the track as being electrified. Hit space a few times in the world editor to see track electrification status.

That's the soldier summit route isn't it? Are you trying to run the electric BR 189 on that route? Because that won't work.

The only thing this guide lets you do is run 3rd rail trains on overhead wire routes, and vice versa.

Running an electric train on a non-electrified route can still be done, but not without modifying either the route or the train.

I'm going to need to know the error message to see if I can help you.

At which point does the message appear? During which step in the guide? Or is it when you press the Start button?
