Introduction
If you are a new player I suggest you read this guide first. (this is my first guide I have ever made) I will be instructing you on how to defeat rebels/wild animals/independants.
Wandering Independants
These independants will travel from square to square. Although they are also atracted to certain types of terrain: Deer like forests and plains while swamp things like swamps or marshes.

Tips:

1. Never let generals be alone
2. Always check the number of units there
3. Always keep the bases garded. Unexpected attacks can occur
4. Know the terrain that they are in
5. They can attack without warning
6. They could be stronger in some types of terrain
7. Most independants can be charmed
Independants at Settlements
Independants stationed at settlements are Independants that wont move, but their numbers are doubled.

1. It is always helpful to have more units than what is stationed at the settlement
2. Pay attention to the number of sheilds at the bottom of the screen when veiwing an enemy settlement (more sheilds= more defence)
3. Settlements like cities and castles will more than likely have a ballista of a cataput.
4. There may be a general stationed at a settlement.
5. Some settlements can make more troops
6. If there is a dragon at a settlement then use units like golems or deep ones. It would be more effective than human troops.
7. If there is no units stationed at an independant settlement such as a town then there may be an ambush waiting for you.
8. When starting a game seige settlements like farms of hamlets. Start small and go big.

If you want to stop neutrals:

1. Burn down all Ancient forests on the map. (Unless your faction can use them.)

2. Garrison all other spawners such as graveyards, haunted cities & bandit encampments with a force that cannot be easily defeated by neutrals. (They don't work if they are controlled by a player faction)

3. Wipe out all roaming neutrals.

Pyromancers can be hired by most factions, and usually have the burn forest skill or can learn a spell that will grant them it. They cost about 100 gold so it is wise to keep this in reserve early game.

Thirty men, 15 of both archers and spears usually does the trick for spawner garrisons.
This part can be too expensive early game, so it may be more practical to just keep a close eye on them so they remain under your control.

If I could make a suggestion, I think your title should be more of a basic intro/suggestion for dealing with neutral creatures rather than defeating the forces of nature. Since you're suggesting ways of counter-acting neutrals rather than stopping them at their source.
