"Rare Specimen" - The Effortless Way

Please ignore any other variations of this method as they will not work, and rip off my original Facepunch post. I do not recommend using this method unless you are impatient, an achievement hunter or have experienced problems with the achievement. This may get patched eventually but that's the only problem.

Preparation

First of all, you're going to need a save for the chapter "Lambda Core". This is the location where you'll be doing everything:

Now you are ready to begin, first of all you need to enable the Developer Console by enabling it in Options > Keyboard. Once you are able to use it (`, tilde sign on your keyboard) type "prop_dynamic_create props_junk/tomabasarab_quaff.mdl". If that doesn't work, replace "prop_dynamic_create" with "prop_physics_create". This should spawn the hat, but throwing it in the portal won't activate the achievement. Next you'll want to look, or aim, directly at it and type "ent_setname quaff" in the Developer Console. It usually mentions that it has been named "quaff" in the console, but this doesn't necessarily matter. Now you just need to keep the hat in a secure location so that you can battle the incoming enemies while simultaneously protecting the hat for when it is needed. Once you've kicked ass, save your game just in case anything goes wrong. After that, throw the hat into the portal to Xen and kaching! Achievement Unlocked!

Note: Don't type the speech marks ("s) into the console, they aren't necessary and may cause problems or mess up the commands.

right now i am against the gonarch in chapter 16 with the hat and the pizza in the same time. its really hard.

for achievement hunter... loollll a real achievement hunter will do every achievement the right way . the only exeption allowed to do something like this is if the achievement is broken and no longer accessible and you have done the rest that can be done because its kind of annoying when you did all achievement and the last one is broken you have it 100% but the last one is missing. and still if the achievement is no longer broken after that, you have to do it this is how I do things. XD

Pussy asf, I carried the damn thing through the whole game, one run to bring the hat, one run to the bring the pizza along with the gas canister, getting achievements using cheats its like not doing it

Amazing thank you very much. I am not willing to spend 10+ hours carrying a stupid hat for 2 achievements and a "special ending". You saved my time and nerves.

Thanks a lot for this, it worked for me. Yes, I'm an achievement hunter. I played and finished this game (well, the original Half-Life) back in 1998, and I was replaying it to get the achievements. Nice job, sir.
