Heavy Caliber

Description
This is the SFM version of my TF2 workshop submission: The "Heavy Caliber"

It's a gigantic shotgun revolver for the Heavy, inspired by weapons like the "Raging Judge" and "Desert Eagle". It's custom-ordered to fit the Heavy's unique hands, and therefore built to a tremendous size. He is likely the only one on the team who could reliably lift it, let alone fire it. It comes with large custom shotgun shells, which are loaded into an revolving enclosure at the back of the gun. The side reload lever rotates the chambers and opens the reload latch, both unloading the current empty shell casing out the right side, and allowing the user to load in a new shell from the left side.

This weapon has a weird history for me. I first made it as a joke, then I considered using it for my Sandvich item, then I junked it, then I revived it. I never could quite get the look of it exactly right, but I did draw a lot of inspiration from the Enforcer and Ambassador for tackling the "silver/bright" metal look. To my surprise, both the Ambassador and Enforcer have very little to no texture work to speak of, so much of my texture draws from brushed metal guns found in the real world.

The design is an combination of various revolver designs, both small and large. The encased chamber idea... I'm not exactly sure where I came up with that. I made it as such to hide the revolving reload, as TF2 does not support dynamic reloads, but to my knowledge, I have not see another gun that sports such a design. I fear this design decision ultimately hurt this submission's integrity on the workshop.

I also wanted to release this as a playable skin. However, due to the way the shotgun is treated in TF2, it creates huge conflicts across every class that uses a shotgun. Imagine the pyro running around with a busted version of this shotgun.

Notes

-The custom shotgun shell, the interior chamber, the reload latch, the reload lever, and the hammer are all setup for posing.

-The interior chamber was built with gameplay optimization in mind. When rigging for continuous reload, note that there is only enough chambers to support one quarter rotation. When I animated it for the game, I simply snapped the chamber back each time a reload happened. This adequately simulated the barrel making full rotations, even though there were only 2 chambers actually created.

-Because the right side of the gun his hardly ever seen in-game, I simply baked the texture with an image of an empty chamber. There is no modeled chamber on the right half of the gun.

-There are no alternative skins for this weapon. I made some mock up versions with different colors early on, but they looked like garbage, so I never pursued them.

Sorry, I didn't see your reply here. I probably would have responded sooner.
