I bet you didn't know that Italian Swordsmen can throw javelins. It's a well-kept secret of the game.

How to use Swordsmens' javelin

It's very simple. When you hold your cursor over an enemy unit, it will look like this:

Now, all you have to do is hold down the ALT key. The cursor will now look like this:

Right click and your swordsmen will start throwing javelins.

Take care, they have a limited number of javelins they can throw .

It's mostly Roman and Barbarian units that can do this.

You can also make archers use melee!, useful if you need to retreat you can send in a weak unit to hold them off.

This is the first Total War game I've played so I've got no frame of reference for what controls have been "used since the biggining of Total War." Keep these secrets coming because for all intents and purposes all features are secrets in this game to me with no official manual or tutorial.
