How to play Vegas
By Seawolf
Vegas mode doesn't really require much skill, it's all about the luck. It's an easy mode to chill out with while using a bit more brain power than mono, but not by much. This is a guide teaching you how to play the mode at a level that should get you at least to the front of most scoreboards where most people don't know how to play the puzzle modes.

About Vegas
Vegas mode doesn't really require much skill, it's almost all about the luck once you know the basics.

1) Collect mainly purple/blue (or whatever are the two most plentiful colors in the skin you play with) with occasional yellow/red (the two rarer colors and higher point values) clusters in order to increase and maintain your combo multiplier. Maintaining the multiplier is the most important aspect.

2) Look at the track minimap and take note of where paints/storms are at and what color. The position is indicated by colored ligns going up or down from the track line (white lines indicate loops; the longer the line the higher the multiplier in the loop). You want to have a high multiplier and as full a grid as you can if you are going to hit a Yellow/Red. Paints are usually the go to option to choose if you have a mixed grid, but if you have mainly yellows or reds you don't want to hit purple/blue paints. If you don't have a full grid it is usually better to shuffle your board to maximize space for storm blocks.

3) Powerup/gifts: These appear randomly over your vehicle as icons. It's hard to notice on some skins that use the classic pixel effect. Use them with some thought

4) Shuffle: left click to shuffle your grid. Use this to (hopefully) get yourself out of a grid locked by mismatched colors keeping you from collecting further blocks.
Paints
Paints turn all the blocks on your grid into one single color. These are the best powerups and are best used on a completely full grid to give you the Match 21 bonus and maximum points.

If you have a purple/blue paint with a mixed color grid far from the next loop and point multiplier fill out your grid and use it. If you're nearing a loop try to maximize your grid and use it before hitting the multiplier. If you have a majority yellow/red grid (2/3 grid full), let those clear before using these paints.

If you have a yellow/red paint ONLY use it on a loop. These are guaranteed MASSIVE point boosters with a point multiplier. Increase your combo multiplier as much as you can before entering a loop, and have the grid as full as possible. Use right before hitting the multiplier. Do not be greedy with these paints and hold them only for the 3x and 4x loops. You never know what you'll get before the next loop, you might just get lucky and get another great paint or a crappy storm, but you want to maximize your chances of generating the most powerups and points so use them at every loop no matter the multiplier. If you hold on to yellow/red paints you're lowering your chances of higher points even if all you get is purple paints afterwards.

White paints are a nice point boost, do not save these for anything. Best used when you have a mixed color grid with a 3x point multiplier or more. Fill the grid out and use it anywhere outside a loop and far from the lane spawned paints/storms.
Storms
Storms give you 3 blocks of a specific color per row. Best used when you have the space before hitting a loop, or want to clear some colored blocks of the same color that are separate but will be linked by the storm blocks.

Use storms to with some thought. Maximize your points by filling out your grid with similar colors. Storms are useful for clearing out annoying colors you don't have enough of and aren't being lucky in clearing off your grid. You can use storms to pad out your grid on a loop and gain more points.

White storms are more hassle than they're worth. They're really annoying to get off your grid, but holding on to them will mean you aren't generating a potential red paint. Use as soon as you can without destroying your combo multiplier through overfilling or inability to grab more blocks while you try to shuffle them off your grid.
White Blocks
Don't grab these unless you have a really empty grid and can easily shuffle them to the bottom. Not worth the hassle in most situations.

I'll have to try this out. I was playing like I played Vegas in AS1 which was kind of the opposite of what you're suggesting. I grabbed all the higher point blocks only.
