SFM:: How-to [In-depth] Guide to apply Gun Mettle skins

This is a guide that shows the fix to the gun mettle TF2 update and getting them to work in SFM.

Have you been wondering how to get the latest TF2 Update called "The Gun Mettle Update" in SFM and get it to work?
Are you looking for those rad, snazzy weapon skins but can't get them to load on the weapons despite what you do?
Look no further then this guide. This guide will show you how to get those TF2 Weapon Skins to work for SFM only.

Unusuals - May have glitches or work 50%.
Skins - Work and Done by Denise Makar.
Taunts - May work but have to adjust by hand.
Maps - Crashes SFM. Does not work.
Models, Weapons, Props, Misc Items aka Stat tracker added to table for easier finding.

Requirements::
• Source Filmmaker. Obviously.
• The TF2 game.
• WinZip or 7zip to extract the packs.
• GCFScape and knowledge of how to do this::

If this is done correctly you will have the current TF2 weapons for these mod packs to work. The skins will be next.

For the purpose of this tutorial. There will be text and some photos if any to show the way of applying the fix. There will also be links to a collection of skins and a how to video.

Let's begin.
Preparation::
Let's get started.

First off, make sure you extracted the models and materials from the first step before going to this step. Once done, proceed below.

Grab one of these packs::

Next get to the OneDrive link [It's safe to download]. Download the pack.
Extract it with either WinZip or 7Zip.
Place the files in a folder named what it is in that particular workshop.
ex) the folder that you have your models, materials extracted to from the 1st step.
Then rename the folder to the name on the workshop listing.
Copy the folder to
Your Drive Letter:\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game and place the folder inside of game.
Then go to your usermod folder.
Find the Gameinfo.txt and do this:: (You can do usermod or the game mod name folder).

Example of code:: [Gameinfo.txt]

Once that is done. Go to the next step.
Execution::
Now you are ready to get those skins working in SFM from the Game of TF2.

Once the folder has been made and placed in the game folder of your SourceFilmmaker.
You are ready to proceed to the next step.

Open SFM by the second option. Choose the usermod folder if not chosen.
Make changes and make sure that gun mettle folder is above the others in gameinfo.txt.

Then go do a new session, go to the stage map and spawn in a weapon of your choice.
Make sure to pull it from your new folder since the weapon is different from the SFM stock.
[It's the c_weapons].
Once chosen the weapon will still show default skin.
Don't worry. This is where the material overrides comes in at and it's really easy.

Next right-click the model and do add material override. Right-click the model again and go model.
Then go to materials, right-click the weapon and then add an Attribute as a string.
Next type
$basetexture
.
Now locate your materials in the new folder you made for the Gun Mettle and select a skin.
Example::
models\weapons\c_models\c_scattergun\c_scattergun_night_terror_factory_new_red

Hit Enter and then go to console and do a

mat_reloadallmaterials
Hit Enter and then move the timescale bar left to right and it should show the new skin as shown here.

Where are the cosmetics, weapons and such tables at!?
Most cosmetic models and weapons can be found by this search filter " summer2015 ".

Below is a list of the additional props and misc items::

Coin

4 months later, my files got corrupted and I had to re-verify the game files. The texture is still there, the search paths are still there, the gameinfo.txt information is still there... And yet the skins are not aligned properly with the model.

@RoR If you're still having problems with this (I did), follow this guide but place the extracted folders in a new folder and add it to the gameinfo.txt (like you did for these skins). DON'T extract them into the tf folder. When you add the weapon models, they should have priority from the new folder. Same deal as the skins folder you made.

Oh, if the weapon has a purple/missing texture glow (I had this problem because I hadn't extracted EVERTHING), you need to find, extract, and place in the correct location the "lightwarps" folder. Just FYI, as I had this problem.

I'm terrible at explaining things, but I hope this helps lmao :devon:

Hey I've got an issue (as everyone else here), I did get to apply the skin but it's displaced. Do you know how to fix it?

This does not work. I've done everything you said and 3 hours later I'm still faced with a purple-black checkerboarded shotgun. I'm using the current TF2 models, I've set priority in gameinfo.txt, the skins have their own folder alongside tf, usermod, ect.

Is there a step my inexperienced brain missed that wasn't written down?

so if you know how to make a vpk its the same process but you put the vpk in the vpk program if not look in the bin file of tf2 and look down untill you see vpk then take the vpk file you want and put it through(drag it on to the program I would advise putting a short cut to it on your desktop) it will decomplie and there you have a uncomplied vpk

Hey it would be nice to see the tutorial on what files to export ive exported the files about 30 times now and it doesnt work ive tried all combos of doing it it would help if you included that bit too

Im getting the same issue as Pter, where exactly are the c_models in the TF2 files?
