Shadow of Kingdoms Beginner’s Guide - part I
By admaxgame
The Shadow of Kingdoms team presents the comprehensive guide to players of all levels who may need some help with the progress of their game. We have listed the most important elements within the game and how to improve in each section. Please read and learn about the strategies in this guide and become the true hero that can save the world of Shadow of Kingdoms!

I. Leveling Up
The primary approaches to getting experience in Shadow of Kingdoms are the main mission quests and clearing dungeons. Since the primary story missions are consistently available to players, we recommend completing them as a top priority. Dungeons require Mobility as a secondary resource. Having more Mobility allow the players to clear the dungeons more, leading to additional experience. Mobility recovers at a rate of 5 points every 30 minutes and features additional recovery of 50 points at noon and 6PM (server time). The maximum Mobility is 200 points and Mobility recovery halts when the bar is full. Please remember to use your Mobility before it reaches 200 points to maximize efficiency. In addition to natural recovery, players can also receive additional Mobility through in game purchases and additional Mobility purchase times by leveling up their VIP status.

II. Army Strength
Putting mechanics and strategy aside, army strength is the game’s most important value. Strength depends on the units in the player’s active army:
A. Hero Property
Every hero has the following properties: Str, Def, Int, Mag. Str increases the attacking unit’s physical damage abilities. Def decreases physical damage that the player’s units take. Int increases the unit’s magic damage abilities. Mag decreases magic damage that the player’s units take.
The hero’s properties are composed of the following 3 factors: Basic property, Equipment property, Visiting Property.
(1) Basic property: The hero has a random chance to increase his/her basic stats. Higher growth rate lead to more increased properties. Heroes with different jobs have different random growth rates.
(2) Equipment property: Equipment can be obtained from dungeons or treasure hunts. Duplicates can be used to decompose into equipment level-up materials. Higher level equipment provides more properties to the hero equipping it.
(3) Visiting property: Visit strictures can be found in dungeons and treasure hunts through random chance. Visiting the building provide the player’s hero with additional properties. It can also be purchased directly from the shop with diamonds. Higher hero level and growth level lead to additional property gained when visiting. The exact increase in property also depends on the hero’s job.
B. Hero Magic
Magic tower can be constructed in the city for the player’s hero to learn various magic spells. Leveling up the magic tower unlocks higher levels of magic. After researching and unlocking the power magic spells, the hero can learn these spells. There is an exchange shop in the Bonus Dungeon that allows players to obtain high level magic spells. Magic at every rank can be level up. Spells of higher levels are more powerful at the same rank. Similarly, clearing the Bonus Dungeon allow the player to obtain materials to exchange for the magic spells. The game provides free reset for the Bonus Dungeon clear that will not accumulate over time. Please remember to use this opportunity to obtain magic exchange materials.
C. Hero’s Unit Limit
Every hero has an upper limit to the number of units it can lead in the army. This depends on the hero’s level, star rating, and quality rating.
(1) Hero level: Dungeon battle victories, dungeon sweeps, and clearing Bonus Dungeons provide the active hero with experiences that increase the hero’s level. In addition, items that increase the hero’s experience can also be found in the shop.
(2) Hero star rating: Sweeping dungeons and participating in Hero Battle can provide materials that are used to increase the hero’s star rating. Similar materials can also be found in the shop, the secret shop, and exchange shop in the arena.
(3) Hero quality rating: Sweeping dungeons drop materials that are used to increase the hero’s star rating. Similar materials can also be found in the shop, the secret shop, and exchange shop in the arena.
D. Equipment Rune Property
Higher level equipment allows more runes to be addition as additional properties. These runes can be obtained for free through equipment decomposition, online gift, and daily missions. Runes can also be replaced through random rune forge function. The shop and the secret shop also have runes available for the player to purchase.
E. Treasures
Rare treasures can be obtained through random drops in dungeons and treasure hunts. These treasures add some special properties that cannot be obtained through other means. Many of these properties increases and composes of the player’s army strength.
F. Army Unit Count
Before the player’s hero reaches its hero unit limit, we recommend recruiting as many different kinds of units as possible to increase army strength. Unit primarily comes from barrack’s production. New units can be recruited every week (in game calendar). Upon reaching level 30, player has access to additional castles that also produce units every week that can be recruited. Obtaining and defending additional cities will increase the overall army unit count that the player has access. There are items in the shop that can prevent the player’s cities from being attached. Using these items can allow the player to have permanent access to additional cities and units.
G. Army Unit Composition
Every race has access to 7 different ranks of units. Each rank of unit is also composed of 3 different levels. As a general rule, units with higher rank and levels are more powerful. Player can see the exact strength and property of each unit in game. When the player have access to many different types of units, it becomes clear that it is very important to choose the right army unit composition. Having more units does not always lead to higher army strength. For instance, 100 rank 7 level 1 units are more powerful than 1000 rank 1 tier 1 units. The players should use their understanding of the game’s battle and unit composition to make their own army unit compositions. There is also a function in the market that allows players to exchange one type of unit into another. However, this will only work for the rank and level of units that the player current has unlocked in their barracks.
Many of the topics listed above about the army’s strength are very obvious to see in game with the exception to the army’s unit amount. Every unit type can provide stable amount of strength to the player’s overall army.

The correct meaning should be "Runes can also be replaced through random rune forge function."

Great work and thank you for this. I have one question and I quote, "Runes can also be transformed from one to another through random rune exchange function." Just how does one go about doing this exactly? It's not explained clearly in your guide and I wasn't able to figure it out for myself.
