III. Castle Construction
The buildings in the castle’s that can be constructed can be sub-listed into these 4 types: Barracks, Castle Defense, Mines, and Feature Buildings.
Prerequisites must be met before constructing buildings. These requirements are along the lines of Lord’s level, existing buildings, and the castle’s prosperity. The castle’s prosperity level depends on the buildings that have already been constructed in the city. Each building provides its own prosperity amount. We recommend prioritizing barracks, following with mines and feature buildings. Castle defense builds should be left last as they do not provide as much prosperity. We also recommend constructing additional storage buildings in various cities since many of the higher level barracks require large amount of resources such that 1 storage building will not be enough.

IV. Battle
Shadow of Kingdoms’ engaging and tactful battle system is the central core to the game’s gameplay. Player will be able to enjoy their battles and feel accomplished when all of their previous work in building their castles and recruiting troops come into fruition upon victory in battle. We have concluded some useful tips for any players interested in learning more about the game’s battle system.
A. Defensive Retribution
This strategy works well when the enemy have week ranged units and most of their melee units types are of the size 2x2. Begin by placing ranged units at the first and last spots of the formation (top left and bottom left corners of the screen). Then proceed to place melee units with high HP in the front to prevent the enemy’s melee units from attacking the player’s ranged units. The enemy army will also be forced to attack the player’s high HP defense units and be in perfect range for the player’s ranged units to attack.
B. Waiting for Opportunity
In the case of entering battle and having higher move priority before the enemy, allow the player’s units to standby in their place. This will force the enemy units to come to the player first. Many times the enemy’s units do not have enough movement ranged to attack the player’s units in the first few turns. Waiting for the opportunity for the enemy to come in range will allow the player’s units to be able to attack first and obtain a significant amount of HP advantage.
C. Focus Fire
With the exception of certain special units that cannot perform count attack, most units can only perform count attack once per turn. The player uses his/her weaker unit to attack in order to receive the enemy’s counter attack. Then use all of the other units to focus attack the enemy unit without receiving any chance of being counter attacked.
D. Disabling Ranged
With the exception of certain ranged units that cannot perform melee attack, most ranged units have a 50% damage penalty when attacking in melee range. The player can use his/her melee units to rush and force attack on the enemy’s ranged units. Continuing this strategy will disable half of the enemy’s ranged unit damage and lead to victory.
