1: Play Single Player
Or play with friends on campaign. Best settings are on easy or normal. PLEASE, PLEEEAAAASE do not jump into an expert game, because if you get kicked for getting incapped over and over, don't be surprised. So please, stick to single player, friends, or easy and normal campaigns.

I apologize if I sound like an elitist, but I'm just saying this so new players can have a better experience than most people had.

2: Listen To Others
Two reasons on why this is a good idea:

1. Left 4 Dead 2 needs a lot of communication, so listening and reading to what players have to say is important.

2. You can get some advice in the game to improve your skill!

3: Don't Heal At Yellow
Please...pleeaaase don't heal at yellow. The reason why is because it's a huge waste of a medkit which could be used at crucial times, such as a tank attack, horde, or even when you're incapped twice and you're black and white! (BW)

4: Shove After Shooting With Pump Shotguns And Chrome Shotguns
Pump and Chrome shotguns, also known as "tier-1 weapons" are slow when it comes to fire rate. So, if you shove after shooting, the speed can be increased. Just watch out, if you overdo it, you can lose fatigue, which stops your shoves for a small amount of time.

5: Be Active In The Community
What I mean by this is go to the discussions, and look for some other new players! It's even more fun when you find players on your skill level most of the time. Or, you can even check out the front page of the "guides" section (which you're on now) and find some guides that you're interested in. Just make sure you give them a thumbs up if it helped you.

Seriously, this is the most important tip because good skill can be developed much better and quicker in a good social environment.
