Running a dedicated server is fairly trivial with this game.

The first step is to install the server software. If your using the steam GUI you can do this by going to the tools filter in your games library and installing the "Zombie Grinder Dedicated Server" package (riiiiight at the bottom of the list).

If your installing on a headless server you want to use steamcmd to download the package, you can do that reasonably easily, the steam wiki gives a good explanation - https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD. Our appid is 374980 for when you come to running the app_update command.

Once you have the software installed you need to run it. Without specifying any command lines the server will run a generic server with minimal customization. If you want to customize your server you want to enter some of these commands on the command line (or if your running through the steam GUI, right click the dedicated server, go to properties and put the command in set launch options).

This is a brief list of command line options, there are others but they are not particularly relevant to dedicated servers.

-nogui 1
Forces the game to run headless. This is on by default on server builds.
-server 1
Forces the game to run as a server. This is on by default on server builds.
-server_name "My Server"
Sets the name that is shown in the games server browser.
-server_secure 1
Sets the server as a VAC secure server.
-server_map_name "c1_s1"
Sets the name of the map to load by default.
-server_auth_port 8767
Port used to communicate with steam servers. Leave as default.
-server_master_port 27017
Port that is used for master server management. Leave as default.
-server_port 57898
Port uses will communicate on.
-admin_username "Username"
Username login for admin panel.
-admin_password "Password"
Password login for admin panel.
-admin_port 6060
Port the admin panel will be hosted on.

On the main dedicated servers we run with the following command line:

-nogui -server -server_name "US_Official_1" -server_secure -server_map_name "c1_s1" -server_auth_port 8767 -server_master_port 27017 -server_port 57898 -admin_username "UsernameHere" -admin_password "PasswordHere" -admin_port 6060

To adminstrate servers you can define an admin login and port, which will host a very simple webserver on that you can control the server from. You can get to this by entering http://myserverip:6060 (assuming you set -admin_port to 6060) into your web browser.

Thats pretty much all it takes.

Hi all. Awesome game btw. Trying to set up a dedicated server. It seems all good and I can access the website (server running for ten minutes already) but I can't seem to find it when browsing servers in-game. Appropriate ports have been open in the firewall config so not really sure what could be going wrong...any input appreciated!

If possible could you make a video showing exactlly how to set up a dedicated server, both way. The explanation you have given is rather incomplete for some players like my self to understand.

It still needs access to the redistributable dll's.

If you don't have steam installed you can probably solve this by dropping the dll files in the root of the games install folder into the Binary folder. I should really do that by default ...

But it seem that I can't start the server from a SteamCMD install (Windows 10)

The server want Steam but normally the DS (Source Engine for example) doesn't need a running Steam...

The appid is wrong! 263920 is the appid of the game not the server software!
374980 is the correct appid for "Zombie Grinder Dedicated Server"
