Introduction
So here it is: A quick guide on how I'm using the trams made by me in my cities. Please keep a few things in mind:

  • This is my first guide. So don't expect a masterpiece. I'm going to rewrite some parts of it in the future as my experience grows and I learn some new tips and tricks.
  • English is not my native language. So please forgive the influence of german sentence building ;-)
  • Please feel free to offer construtive criticism and comment this guide.
  • More content (placing stations and tracks between roads) will be added soon.

This guide is intended to help you implement tram networks using the normal rail network tools of Cities Skylines. It is not the one and only way to do so, just mine. Since we don't have a real tram logic implemented in the game at the moment, this is the best I could do without any programming skills (besides using some great mods made by others). It is however not the best solution as we can't place tracks on roads, loosing two lanes on a six lane street (Haven't tried road anarchy yet) and sometimes need to overlap tracks and streets with strange visual results and therefore no railroad crossings (Good for traffic flow, bad for the eye.).

So, let's see if we can get you this:

These mods and assets are required to follow this guide.

Setting up your first tram line
So, let's start with our first tram line:

1. Find your starting point on your map (maybe a new suburb you want to create).

2. Select a tram station from the transportation/rail category.

3. After you have placed the station, select and name it. This will make it easer later on.

4. Place other stations and connect them via railtracks.

5. Switch to the "create line" icon in the transportation/rail category.

6. Click on every stop (tram station) on your new line, to add a stop

7. After all stops are placed, click on the first stop placed to close the line. No difference to train lines so far. ;-)

8. So now we've finished our line, IPT will come up with a menu.
Select one of the named tram stations as spawn location in the drop down. (Since every station is listed there, we really need the name given at point 3.

9. Now it's time to get our rolling stock on the tracks. After choosing a spawn location, IPT gives us the option to select the trains/trams we want on our route.
Select the vehicle and click on "Add vehicle". If you want four vehicles, click four times on that button.

10. The vehicles selected are now beeing queued for spawning. Depending on game speed and spawn interval, this may take a few secs.

Prevent trams from spawning on outgoing connections
So, after we have created our first tram line, we want to prevent trams from spawning and blocking our in- and outgoing train connections.

1. Open advanced vehicle options via its button located in the menu bar

2. Navigate to passenger trains in the drop down menu

3. Now select the vehicle you used on your rail lines.

4. Uncheck "allow this vehicle to spawn". The trailers used with this vehicle will also be unchecked automatically.

Finished! As long as you don't replace the station used as spawn point, no other trains types will be on this line.

You need to rename/update this, as there actual Trams in the game now. This is just confusing.
