Making Steam Maps Editable on your PC + How to access maps from the Workshop since it stopped working.
By Norfolk_Chris
Do ever feel that you would like to edit a Steam Workshop map that you like to play?

I like to adjust the ‘car factor’ of maps that I play to produce an acceptable level of traffic using my personal ruleset. An excessive amount of traffic (‘car factor’ too high) simply renders a game unplayable unless you remove all your transport off road. You may also want to edit a map in other ways to facilitate game play in any way you like?

Since the Steam Workshop has stopped working this is the only way you can download Workshop maps, these will be editable by default.

The maps you have shared are still accessable in a folder on your computer (Windows).
The map folders are found in the folder (Windows) 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\79832872\ugc\referenced'.
You will find the maps in the individule numbered folders within the folder, copy the maps (*.map files), [not the folders or other files in the folder] into your 'maps' folder. (C:\Users\user_name\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities in Motion 2\Maps)
The map names you find in the Steam folders are very long strings of text (the city name is in there somewhere).
You will want to rename the maps to a sensible name. You now play the map, you can also edit the maps if wish using the map editor.
You can add further maps from the workshop by 'subscribing' as before.

Thank you very much Chris! It did work for me.

On my LInux system, the "savegame" folder is here:

~/.local/share/Steam/userdata/[Steam_Account_ID]/ugc/referenced

( [Steam_Account_ID] is a long number, "79832872" in your case )

The "Maps" folder is here:

~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Cities in Motion 2/Cities in Motion 2_Data/Data/Maps

You cannot edit maps in the editor if they are placed anywhere except the folder specified. (On your PC 'user_name' will be replaced by your personsal user name.) Make sure you have placed only the file ending in '.map' in the folder (enything else will be ignored by the editor).
I have done this many times and I know it works!

Weird. I can't seem to locate said map.

I have edited the guide to remove obsolete information.

The folder you mention is not your editable maps folder. The folder where you need to place the workshop maps is:
C:\Users\user_name\AppData\LocalLow\Colossal Order\Cities in Motion 2\Maps

For current version, the map data can be found in the following map: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities in Motion 2\CIM2_Data\Data\Maps. Somehow, I can't load these into the editor, though

Yes, but you will need to know where the files are located. I cannot helpl with this as I am not a mac user. The actual folders should have the same names.
If you can find their addresses, post them to help other mac users.
