How To Edit Route Images For TS2016
By Deadly-Dorito
On some routes, you may notice that it doesn't have any route profile images. This tutorial is here to show you just how to fix that with a custom image of your choice for your routes as well.

Introduction
You may or may not have noticed that on some routes in train simulator, there is no image for scenarios and quick drive. I think that this looked un-neat and decided that i should write a guide on how to fix this so you can drive happy.

This problem occurs with a lot of Just Trains and DTG routes. These include
*London Faversham
*Hamburg Hannover
*Scottish ECML
*Mardonshire
*Bristol Avonmouth
And many more.

If you are interested at customizing your routes then feel free to use this guide to help you. So lets get going shall we.

HOW TO ADD CUSTOM ROUTE IMAGES TO TS2016
Entering The Route Directory
For this tutorial, i am going to use the London To Faversham Route as my example.

First you will need to load up TS2016 and click on build and then routes

Select the route that you wanna edit, click the name and in the right hand side, click the Open to open up the route directory.

From here, a folder will appear which should look like this...

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/394426869242413710/C4DAB201EF2E9041A2405C751825058505084A69/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

From here you will create a new folder and you must name it RouteInformation and open it.

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/394426869242422502/B06283D2C307534ED3E3D7C7E60561B10747DF62/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

Finding The Right Image
Ok so now you have the route directory open, leave that for later. Now you need to find an image off the internet for your route.

So into google and type in Train Sim <Route Name> Images. and a load of results should appear like this.

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/394426869242440595/B23CA861C7AD6E49B19AC8A287CDA0393F674C07/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

I decided to use this one as my route image...

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/394426869242451815/01AB22846A4793B7B0472647E32676D22A5D51C1/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

THE IMAGE MUST BE AT LEAST 600 X 337 or it will not fit into the route information file properly.

Saving It To TS2016
Now we are gonna save as picture into the folder we made which (for london faversham) should be
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Content\Routes\00000034-c000-0000-0000-000000002013\RouteInformation.

When saving this image, copy and paste the route information link on the top of your OTHER file (the one you opened earlier) and paste that into where you are planning on saving the new image. Now we have to name it before we save it.

When about to save you MUST change it to all files and name it image.png like this...

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/394426869242469502/C6A71F6E98C74B517CCA8D2B8E59900865887EE3/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

Now, once you have done that, copy and paste the route information URL into the top box and click enter and then save! Now when we look at the file we made at the start you should notice your image in there like this...

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/394426869242478312/9A267D1C24E4FAF9EAEED7A5231CD469444FA6F3/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

Conclusion
Once the image is in the file all you need to do is close and reset train sim...

And open quick drive which should now look like this when selecting your route...

http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/394426869242490215/836162CFA99F10BC05647A27E30B6B411F354273/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|256:*

and you are DONE. You can use this trick on any route, even ones with images already. Customize your train sim. Thats all from me. If you enjoyed reading and if this worked to your favour, leave a comment below.

Thanks

Consider inserting screenshots in here and not the links. You know you can add them when editing the guide.

I must be really dense because none of this makes sense to me. I will look for other guides on the subject.

Hi.
Thanks for your guide about the route images.
How is it going with the loco one, since it has been months since you posted about it.

Hang on, let me get my binoculars for those images...

For those of you having a problem because "open" is greyed out. Even though you can't open it from that link, the path to that folder is shown in the box. All you need to do is make note of which folder it is for that route and create the RouteInformation folder inside it. Save the image as "image.png" and you are set.

Same problem as Crum. Open is greyed out for all routes even when running program as Admin. How do I get round this?

Would this work also for missing loco pics too? (Portland Terminal locos for example) If so, do I have to change the name of the file I create to "LocoInformation"? Let me know if there are other thing that I would need to change.
