So you just got these Bubsy games and you want to play them in your favorite non-default emulator, or on your phone or whatever. But you need the game files! Where are they?

(V1.2) The short & sweet method (Finding)
With the latest updates to Bubsy Two-Fur, finding the game files has been made a lot easier.

bubsy_1
Bubsy
bubsy_2
Bubsy II

The menu screen ROM doesn't work properly when it's loaded in another emulator. I haven't figured out how that works, though if someone does, please let me know so that I can add it to this guide!
(V1.2) The elaborate method, AKA "Where are the local files?" (Finding)
Open your steam library. Right click on "Bubsy Two-Fur", and click properties, which should be the bottom option.
Click on the "Local Files" tab at the top, and then click the "Browse Local Files..." button.

There should be five files, including the Bubsy Two-Fur Executable (exe) and the game configuration file (cfg). The other three files not already mentioned are the game files:

(V1.2) How to switch out the game files
Important! I do not condone illegally obtaining ROMs.

...Now that you've obtained some ""legally obtained ROMs"", make your way back into Bubsy Two-Fur's files again. Follow these steps:

  • Pick a Bubsy game you want to replace, either bubsy_1 or bubsy_2 (Note: you technically could choose bubsy_0 too, but then you wouldn't be able to choose between two games)
  • Move the respective original ROM somewhere else, or change the file extension to .old
  • Copy or move the new ROM into the local files
  • Rename the new ROM to whatever the original one was named (I.E. bubsy_0, bubsy_1, or bubsy_2)
  • Make sure to remove the extension (so that it's not .smc or .bat)

And that should be it! If you replaced Bubsy 2 with, say, Super Mario World, then start the game up and select Bubsy 2 at the menu screen. It should load the game instead of Bubsy 2 if you did that all correctly.

(OLD V1.0) The elaborate method
First things first, you need 7zip. It's free and nice to have. Google it.

Once you have that downloaded, open your steam library. Right click on "Bubsy Two-Fur", and click properties, which should be the bottom option.
Click on the "Local Files" tab at the top, and then click the "Browse Local Files..." button.

There should be two files, a configuration (.cfg) file and an executable (.exe) file. Right click on bubsy_two_fur.exe.
If you've done everything correctly so far, one of the menu options should say "7-zip" with an arrow to the right. click it, and then click "Open archive".

This should open a window which presents you with a few scary-looking files that you don't understand. Just follow the following steps, and you'll be good to go.

  • Open ".rsrc", the only folder shown.
  • Open the folder labeled as "RCDATA"
  • Gaze upon the three files; "200", "201", and "202". These are the game files.

Use this chart to know which file is what:

File Name
Actual Name
200
Menu Screen
201
Bubsy
202
Bubsy II

(note: the menu screen doesn't work outside the vanilla Steam-configured emulation.)

Retroism, if there's a problem with this encouraging digging through game files or whatever, shoot me a message and I'll take it down ASAP. Otherwise, I'm sure everyone reading this understands the ramifications of digging through their games' innards!

@Avanic Unfortunately I don't know. I tried digging through the other game files but haven't found a solution yet. If I do though, I'll update both you and this guide with what I found!
