Overview
After creating my 'Simple Guide to editing scenarios with RWTools,
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=587606467
I was asked "how can I do this with newer routes, they don't seem to show up?"

The reason for this is for some reason, DTG decided to package all newer content in what's called an '.AP' file This means that all the usual files are basically in the equivalent of a 'zip' or 'rar' file that i'm sure most will be familiar with. However, RWTools CAN read these files, it just needs to know where to look and here's how it will find them.
3 Easy Steps
For this example, I will be using the 'Riviera 1950's' route that came with TS 2016. Firstly, you'll need to know where the route's folder is, the easiest way is to select 'Build' from the main menu in game, then scroll down until you're on the route. The route's folder will be displayed in the blue box on the right.
Now you know the folder, in this case C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Content\Routes\00000059-0000-0000-0000-000000002015
Open it and double click on the route's '.AP' file (labeled MainContent). Windows won't recognise this and will ask what you want to open it with (if you've not allocated a program to .AP files before), in this case I use 'WinRar', and the compressed .AP file will open.

Here you can see the route folder top left, the RWTools window on the right with no listing for the Riviera 1950's route and the newly opened WinRar window on the bottom left. Now, see the 'RouteProperties.xml' file? Click on it and drag into the route's folder above. This won't move it but will copy this file,
Now close WinRar, close and re-open the RWTools window and voila, your still packaged route is now visible in the list, job done!

As always, comments / questions welcome below, hope this was useful!

Sadly, this didn't work for me. On opening the file location on my PC, the 'Main Content' folder wasn't shown, but the .xml file was/is, suggesting that I had already allocated a programme to open .AP files. The route I'm trying to see in TS-Tools is the Nottingham/Derby/Leicester route from Just Trains which I downloaded and installed yesterday. It runs perfectly within Steam, but doesn't show in TS-Tools list of Routes. I seem unable to drag the XML file into the TS-Tools interface and I'm desperate to swap assets roundin TST rather than from Steam itself. ANY help is appreciated !

Thank you, Simon, for this ingenious piece of information. However, even though my formerly "invisible" routes are now listed in RW, the contents of same - specifically, the scenarios - do not show up. Is there a way for them to show up short of actually extracting them from the .ap file?

Excellent. This did help as the first route/scenario I have chosen to switch player loco was for a route under these conditions. Of course.

Well, strange question to ask in a guide that has nothing to do with installing reskins! However, i'm happy to point you in the right direction, the best advice is to READ the 'readme' file that is included with every reskin you've mentioned. Most have a 2 step process, 1, copy the downloaded files over then 2, copy the files from the ORIGINAL folders (ie inside the 390 GNER folders) into the new 390 Virgin folders. The most common types of files that need to be copied are called 'GEO' files and are basically the physical 3d model file, which of course, the reskin cant include because then they would be re distributing the entire product. The reason you 225 East Coast cant be seen is precisely because of this for example, it has no 3d model file therefore, the reskin has nothing to be put on and therefore the entire thing is invisible.

I wonder if you could help a guy who has no idea of computers.
I have downloaded things from dpsim but i do not know how to transfer the reskins to the train sim.
for instance i have class 390 gner but i cannot get virgin for some reason.
I also have hst in east coast livery dont ask me how i got that but when i play the east coast 225 a,i cannot drive it,b,i can get into the carrage no problems but when i look outside view the engin is not there.
same with the hst grand central same thing .
I would be very grateful if you could help me in this matter.
Cheers.
