Introduction
Note: Most people think this guide talks about the community alone. While community is the biggest section, I have 4 sections not about the community.

Let's start out in the eyes of a fresh DarkRP player.
This guy has just joined his first DarkRP server, and he's taking in the sights like a monkey in the middle of a bannana tree forest. Just look at those buildings! But, when he finishes exploring the deceptively small map, he finds a certain... emptyness. What the hell do you even do in DarkRP?
It's not roleplaying, that's for sure.

In the next section, I'll attempt to explain what I think is the "goal" of DarkRP, earning the most money.
The "Goal" of DarkRP
The "Goal" of DarkRP is an incredibly circular one: earning the most money. I came to this conclusion because, other than shooting hobos, there's not a lot else to do in DarkRP and nearly every job seems to be bent around the task.

There are many ways to make money, but only one way to EARN it. You'll see what I mean later when I go into detail about common jobs in DarkRP servers.
Back on track, there's only one real way to earn money. Which is buying money printers.
A money printer is defined as anything that makes money out of thin air. It can either literally be a money printer, or it could be methamphetamine cookers.

Buying money printers will ultimately get you the most networth in the smallest amount of time. To house moneyprinters, you need a base.
In DarkRP, there are three kinds of bases.

1. The base built by a supreme autism lord. This base takes up half a city block and is next to impossible to raid, mostly because it's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ huge that the way to impregnate it is hard to find out. Whether or not it has anything in it is for you to decide.

2. A base that uses one, single prop, and spams that prop relentlessly. The most famous prop used for this base is the "kill window" jail door, which is famous for having a see through side if you plop a material on it.

3. Terrible, absolutely godawful bases. These bases are 'babbys first' and most of them have no clue how Gmods tools work because they're spending their first hours on a DarkRP server.
These bases are built for one sole purpose: to house moneyprinters.

However, not only are there different types of bases, there's also two different types of money printers.

1. Low effort money printers. These printers don't require anything more than to exist to make you money. Usually you can take a night out on the town while these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ make you a million.

2. High effort money printers. These ones require you to spend almost as much money as you're making to operate them. It's an even bigger waste of time to play on a DarkRP server with these money printers.

The best thing about this method is that using low effort money printers should make you 1 million dollars in one day. High effort money printers are kinda like a freemium phone game.

Next, we will talk about "raiding" a base, and why it's a pointless waste of time.
Raiding a base, and why it's pointless.
In this section, we'll go over Raiding, Mugging, and Kidnapping, and why they're all pointless.
Raiding is defined as "trying to impregnate a base for whatever reason".
Ten times out of Ten, it's for the moneyprinters inside.
Raiding is braindead simple to understand, but not so simple to understand why it's entirely pointless.
Here's a couple of reasons

1. Too much effort, for too little reward. If you do manage to raid a base, then you might find out that moneyprinters are impossible to carry, and there might not even be anything worth stealing at all!

2. Some bases are impossible to penetrate. Whether it be by bending the rules a little bit so they can make something seemingly impossible, to making a base that breaks the rules entirely, these ones will make you ♥♥♥♥ like a goose.

3. You have to advert that you're raiding. Advertising is using a /advert command to broadcast whatever you're going to say to everybody in the server. Essentially, it's an IC OOC. You have to broadcast, to every single person in the server, that you are currently breaking into someone's home. It should be obvious why this is stupid. (As DJ XenoRaptor states, supposedly you don't have to /advert on every server, but for the many servers I've had the misfortune of playing on, you did have to.)

Not to mention that anything you can make by raiding can just as easily be gotten by moneyprinting your way there.
Mugging and Kidnapping are self explanatory Mugging is pointless because nobody will ever comply with your orders due to the fact that there's no FULL LIFE CONSEQUENCES, and kidnapping is stupid because... who the hell would ever want whom you've kidnapped? Not to mention that, one some servers, you ALSO HAVE TO /ADVERT THAT YOU'RE KIDNAPPING OR MUGGING SOMEBODY.

One last thing I'd like to mention before I go on: The PD and Bank occasionally have vaults that you can raid and steal from. They're both incredibly pittance cash, like 50k each, and recharge every 12 hours. The best part is that they're usually easy to steal from since nobody guards the bank or PD very well.

Next, I'll touch up on the way policing works in DarkRP.
Policing, and why it's godawful
So with the only goal seemingly to be making the most money, and in the real world that way is illegal, how does one simulate real life in this regard?
With policing.
In the real world, it's debateable, but in the DarkRP world, it's godawful. Heres how police SHOULD arrest people.

1. CP has, beyond a reasonable doubt, a notion that there is moneyprinters or something illegal behind base number one.
2. CP issues a warrant. (President may have to approve it)
3. CP busts down the door and finds out what's in the base.
4. CP makes arrests base on what's in the base.

The key word up there was SHOULD. This is how the police actually arrest people.
1. CP can't actually get a search warrant on somebody because there's no real way to know if there's money printers inside a base (THERE ALWAYS IS, but there's no way to know it from outside.)
2. CP hide inside the Police Department until something interesting happens.
3. CP go out onto the street and make as much red tape as they can without getting shot.
4. In the case that the CP can raid a base, they're ♥♥♥♥♥♥ as they have the worst gun in the game and have to rely entirely on their arrest baton as it is almost always better than their gun in every situation.

The CP aren't armed like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ swat team. They get a pistol and they're up against a group of soverign citizens armed with CZs, M4s, and tactical shotguns.

Due to most moneyprinters only making a stupid sound when they're on, most CP's can't find out if a base has moneyprinters (IT DOES) in an IC way.

There's also another job with keys to the PD: The Mayor.

The mayor is a fun character because he's the only job on the server that gets demoted upon death without a bounty. The mayor's only duties are to
1. Rake in his 100k paycheck.
2. Make laws.

Due to how overwhelmingly underpowered the CP's are in DarkRP, any laws he makes will be ignored. The only thing you can do when you play the Mayor is to make incredibly racist/sexist laws to piss off the admins, because they deserve it.

Oh yeah and I guess you can also make building autisitc garbage in the middle of the map legal. Go figure.
The jobs normally on a DarkRP server.
In this section, we will cover a selection of jobs normally found on a DarkRP server.
A "job" is a role you fill. The only thing that sets jobs apart is that certain jobs are exempt from certain rules or start with certain tools to certainly not do their jobs.

The Civillian
The one everyone starts as. Since they can print money all on their own and there's no rule against them printing money all on their own, anyone playing this job is usually busy printing money all on their own.
Job Exclusive Traits:Under the Radar money printing.

The Mayor
Makes laws that NOBODY ON THE SERVER is going to follow. Nine times out of ten they're just a bunch of meme laws that get erased as soon as he dies. Has the unique trait of being the only job on the server that you get demoted from upon death without a bounty on your head.
Job Exclusive Traits: Get demoted upon death, make laws nobody follows.

The Police
Also called the CP, mostly filled with worthless kids who can't uphold the law to save their lives. Due to the fact that the people they're fighting against have ten times better armaments then they do, they normally lose every fight they get into. Also have a cool radio that's never used for policing.
Job Exclusive Traits:Get the weakest gun money can buy upon spawning, arrest and unarrest batons that are far better in an actual fight then their gun.

The Red and Blue Mafia/Gangsters
A loose-knit gang of "criminals", their only difference from a civillian is the fact that they can kill the opposing gang without fear of admin intervention. Worthless job to play as.
Job Exclusive Traits: Can shoot eachother and it won't be called ARGH DEE EM.

Hobos
The defining trait of hobos is the abillity to build on the streets without admin intervention. It's either another "hobotopia only hobos allowed but we have no guns to defend ourselves" or a terrible roadblock. Can also throw dung or bottles at people.
Job Exclusive Traits: Can build on the streets, Angry Hobo SWEP.

Thieves
The raiding job. Since raiding is pointless, they are too.
Job Exclusive Traits:Either spawn with, or buy and sell Raiding Equipment.

Bounty Hunters
This job has one purpose:to kill people for money. Always taken. Anyone with a bounty on their head will get demoted if their hunter happens to kill them.
Job Exclusive Traits:Can kill bounties, which demotes whomever they killed from their current job.

The Gun Dealer
Sells guns at a heavy deficit because if you try to sell any higher nobody will buy from you.
Job Exclusive Traits:♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Duh.

The Drug Dealer
The purpose of this job is to sell drugs. In reality, every CP on earth tries to buy from him so they can have a valid reason to arrest him. Will never sell drugs because drugs are useless.
Job Exclusive Traits:Getting arrested by the police for doing his job.

Batman/Generic Vigil
The only purpose of this job is to beat the living ♥♥♥♥ out of people.
Job Exclusive Traits:Hotpocket Huffers look the other way to his mass murder sprees.

Worthless Jobs/VIP jobs

These jobs are jobs that already have their niches filled or only do a stupid gimmick. If you need an example, I once saw a "sexual predator" job in a DarkRP server (that same server ironically enough banning rapetalk) who's sole purpose was to use the r.ape SWEP on people who went into the bathrooms. If that sounds stupid or redundant, then let that set the stage for any job under this category. Counts jobs that are meant for RPing but since RPing never happens they're worthless.
Job Exclusive Traits:They shine by the light of their uselessness alone.

Admin on Duty
Anyone who plays this job is a complete and utter waste of flesh, blood, and oxygen. Will physgun you to the top of a building for arresting someone who went on a shooting spree.
Job Exclusive Traits:Built in radar to call Mom to make him tendies/hot pockets, can digest these foods in less than 5 seconds, never has to go to the bathroom because he's such a lazy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that he still uses baby diapers, gets free rights to permaban everyone in the server and is probably more destructive than any griefer he has sitted with.

Next, we will go into detail about the most godawful part of DarkRP.
The Community.
The community is the worst part of DarkRP.

When you join a server, you have to download at least 5000 things. You know why? The community.

To understand the community of DarkRP, you need to understand two terms they use.
RDM-Random Death Match, essentially means that you didn't have a reason to kill that guy. SPOUTED REGARDLESS OF CONTEXT.

NLR-New Life Rule. Means that you need to treat each time you respawn as a new life. Only bought up when you're talking about the "don't return to place of death for 5 mins" clause, other than that you can pretend to be John Doe for all anyone ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cares.
THIS RULE WILL EITHER BE RELENTLESSLY ENFORCED OR NEVER TALKED ABOUT.

RDM and NLR are the two most controversial rules on a DarkRP server. Due to most DarkRP servers having a godawful amount of rules, these two are probably the only ones people remember enough to bring up in admin sits, aside from when an admin gets really autistic and tries to bust a potsmoking base builder.

The problem is, due to people only remembering these two rules, they will use it to protect themselves by any means possible.

Came into my gunshop, about to raid it, but got killed by an admin on a power trip? NLR BAN HE
Openly breaking the law, so you get shot by police officers? RDM BAN HE
Walk RIGHT IN FRONT of someone in a shootout? RDM BAN HE.

Whenever someone actually breaks NLR or RDM rules, it is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ IGNORED because whoever is breaking it is good butt buddies with your local admin.
-The Map-
I'd like to consider this a subsection of sorts. It deserves a note here.
Why? BECAUSE EVERY SERVER MINUS A FEW PLAYS ON THE EXACT SAME MAP.
It's been tried and tested that you can, in fact, play DarkRP on a different damn map. Why the hell does every server play the same section? In case you weren't aware by the rest of this guide, DarkRP players are psychotic and they'll willingly do what, when explained clearly, would seem like a dull task over and over again for no monetary compensation. Another reason why DarkRP players would prefer the same exact map over and over again is because they're used to it. Most people who build the autism-type forts have their garbage on speed dial so they can plop it down on any DarkRP server and enjoy getting one million virtual points in a matter of 5 hours. This is a problem because the map is total garbage, with one area being frequented over and over again and every other area getting ignored. If you want some A-R-S-E, your best recipe is the DarkRP map.

-VIPs-
VIPs are the special schoolkids who not only ride the short bus but also gave REAL HARD COLD UNITED STATES DOLLARS to a server so they can 'support' it. VIPs are usually all over the place, so they can be split into two categories that basically encompass all of them. Do note that I'm not trying to say that donating to servers is a bad thing, I'm trying to explain why it's taken to overdrive in DarkRP.

1. Feelgood VIPs. This is the kind of VIP that gives you all kinds of cool titles to make you feel like you're a real "jimbob whirlygig bossman" or a "bacon experto espresso extremeo". Rarely if ever gives stuff that's consequental to the game.

2. Powergame VIPs. These are the ones everyone ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hates. They get stuff that the regulars don't, and it matters because all of that stuff they get has an impact on the gameplay. Whether it be the GOLDEN AK-47 WITH 2000 DAMAGE SHOTS to simple admin meta-clubship, whatever they have will piss off anyone who isn't a VIP.

1 is mostly fine. While they do have stuff normal players can't get, it normally doesn't matter and regular players can still one up VIPs. However, this is DarkRP we're talking about, so the only VIPs on the server usually fall under 2. This is godawful for obvious reasons. The kind of stuff they get usually ranges from special treatment to special weapons to a special short bus they get to ride on their way to hell. If you've ever known about Pay 2 Win phone games, DarkRP servers with VIP donations in the 2 category are basically, no, LITERALLY pay 2 win phone games due to the 'goal' of DarkRP.

-The Admins-
One of the worst parts of the server is the one thing meant to keep it from spiraling into hell, The Admins.
You might've seen that rant I had about admins being total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mommy's boys, and that's because they are. You'll always meet four types of admins on a DarkRP server.

1. Adolf Hitler. This guy will look at every minor point of damage you do to somebody else as a joke and add them up until he can put you in a sit and give you a punishment. Most likely to be on servers with a "rule 0" where you can ban someone for whatever reason you like as long as the other admins find it reasonable

2. The meek and the ashamed. These admins will let anything fly so long as they don't have to do their jobs. They will try their damn hardest to look the other way to every single rule thats broken, no matter how blatant it was. When they ABSOLUTELY HAVE to get into a sit, they let everybody else do the talking and decide on punishments then. (9 out of 10 times they don't give punishments.)

3. The pot smoking base builder. This admin is only admin on duty so he can use certain tools to treat DarkRP as sandbox 2.0. Probably has at least 12 different base buddies who all get 100k guns with instakill properties and godmode ala Edgar. Likely to be on servers that will tolerate his complete and utter disregard for doing his job.

4. Ego-heavy Admins. Added ala [DeityRP] Fluffeh who assumes that his adminship is the greatest. Will take any criticism incredibly harshly and may even ban you for saying that his adminship is anything less than 'yakku pacento orenjujucu' stellar. Assumes you can accurately criticize your own work, much in the way that a 12 year old who writes fanfics on wattpad criticizes his own work to be 'the best' or 'total garbage'. Was really hurt when I called him a hotpocket huffer.

If it's not obvious why the four stooges listed above would make godawful admins, then you're a perfect fit for a DarkRP server.
What do I play instead?
Basewars.
From what I've heard, it's DarkRP without the RP and with better base building.

Most of that is about true about DrkRP

Most of the damn server's are Rip offs who just take your money or milk player for money.
They "Shut Down" or "Fail to keep up"
