Setup
This is how I have uploaded three Character Pools (CP Youtube Pack, CP Game of Thrones and CP Big Bang Theory) to the workshop and it seems to be working. Hopefully Firaxis adds somekind of tool to just upload Character Pools, instead of having to install the SDK... Ohh, I might missed something, but with the pictures provided you might be able to figure it out! :)
  • First you need to download the 'XCOM 2 Development Tools' (found under Tools in your library) and install it as stated in the documentation, located here:
  • And more precise:

  • Once the install is complete you can start XCOM 2 (the game) and start creating your characters in the Character Pool. When you have created all the characters you want, select all and press "Export Selection".
  • Create a new Pool and give it a name.
  • Then export your selected characters to the newly created pool.
  • And one last thing before you are done ingame, select all your characters once more and delete selction. This will help to make sure that you have created the "mod" later on.
  • Last part of part one - copy your created Character Pool from your Character Pool folder to your desktop and then delete it from your Character Pool folder.
Development Tools
  • Start the 'XCOM 2 Development Tools' and create a 'Empty Mod'
  • Dont forget to give the mod a name at the bottom. I use CP infront just to clarify that this mod is a Character Pool.
  • Fill in some information. This can be changed later but just to be safe, give it the same title as you named it earlier.
  • Rightclick on the name of the mod and add a new folder. Rename the folder to CharacterPool.
  • Rightclick on the CharacterPool folder och add 'Existing Item'. Here you add your CharacterPool.bin - should be located on your destop.
  • Time to add the preview image. This is a image that preview the mod in the workshop. I dont know if they have to be square, but mine are. Right click once again on the name of the mod.
  • Rename the image to ModPreview.jpg and you should now have the same setup as in the picture below.
  • Press Build and Build Solution.
  • This created the mod and it can now be found in your mod folder (same folder as the gameinstall). You can now test the mod to see that its working as it should by simple running XCOM 2 and check if the Character Pool is there. If not, you might have missed someting... If it is there - you have a working "mod" and should be ready to publish to the workshop.
Publish
  • In order to publish, press Tools and the Publish Mod.
  • Fill in the information and then press Upload, Create and Upload Mod. Once uploaded, go to your XCOM 2 mod folder and delete the mod - just so that you can subscribe to your own mod (comes later) and see that its working properly. It might be working if you dont delete, you might get two mods with the same name and it might fall apart. I dont know.. :)
  • Once done you should be able to access your uploaded mod in your "private" workshop space here on Steam. The mod is not public untill you change the Visibility and maybe add some screenshots and edit the description to show whats in the character pool.
  • Before changing the Visibility, you should subscribe your own mod just to make sure its working correctly. If it is, it should then show up as mod when you lauch XCOM 2. If it doesnt show up, you should probably not publish..

I'm getting a "The "GenerateModInfo" task was not given a value for the required parameter "GamePath"." error. I followed all the steps and got this. How do I fix it?

so far a good guide. But every time I click on Create and upload mod I get following message:
This is a new mod, getting a published file ID from Valve...
Item creation FAILED. Could not obtain a publishing ID from Valve.

You got an idea on what goes wrong here?

Thanks for this guide! However, I'm running into an immediate problem when I try to install Visual Studio 2013, in that it won't install. UE3 installed fine, but Visual Studio says it's not compatible with Windows 10 and requires a newer version of Windows. My Windows 10 is up to date! Did you or anyone else encounter this problem? Running as administrator or with Windows 8 compatibility settings doesn't change it. :( Haven't been able to find any answers online.

Need help publishing a mod. When I go to upload I get this error message; "Please check workshop_log.text inside the logs folder of your steam install for errors."

So I have followed all the steps and now have a mod on the workshop. I deleted all the characters out of the pool before I subbed to it like you said and deleted it from the mod folder etc. I have now subbed to my own mod but on the Character Pool screen none of my characters are there and it doesn't show up as an importable pool like a couple of the other CPs I have installed....

Hi, I've tried installing the Redist but a pop up said I need WinXP service pack 3, but I have Win7 service pack 1, isn't it better than XP?

And is there any Mod folder in XCOM 2 steam folder?
