Playable Characters
There are 4 playable characters for Portal 2. They only look different; they all have the same abilities (except P-Body and Atlas have the ping tool, and the gestures).

Chell

You will play as Chell in the singleplayer campaign. Your portals are blue, and orange.

Bendy

You will play as Bendy in the singleplayer community test chambers. Your portals are blue, and orange.

Atlas

You will play as Atlas when you host a Coop game. Your portals are light blue, and dark blue.

P-Body

You will play as P-body when you join a Coop game. Your portals are orange, and red.
Elements
Doors
The main point of the game is to get through this. It usually opens with the help of 1500 Megawatt Aperture Science Heavy Duty Super-Colliding Super Button, or laser nodes. There will usually be a elevator (Chamber Lock) behind it in single player, and a dissembler in coop.

Emancipation Grills

These destroy all portals that you have previously placed if you try to go through one, and will also prevent you from placing portals. These will also destroy all movable items that go through it. (Including cubes, turrets, etc.)

Crushers, Shredders

These kill you the moment you touch it. You can never run though a shredder, but you can usually run through crushers with the help of some propulsion gel, or proper timing.

Danger Goo

These are just bodies of water that you can't go into. Avoid falling into it! There are also bottomless pits. They're exactly the same thing.

Moving platforms (Unstationary Scaffolds, and Victory Lifts)
These are usually activated through a 1500 Megawatt Aperture Science Heavy Duty Super-Colliding Super Button, or laser nodes.

Glass walls
This allows you to look behind it, but not place portals. Lasers can go through these.

Grates and Glass-With-A-Hole-In-It
These allows you to look behind it, and place portals. Lasers can go through these.

Buttons and Switches
Clicky things that go Click! Clong! and Clang! Then, something random happens; either a door opens, a platform moves, a cube spawns... who knows? It's different in every test chamber.

Indicator Lights
Lights that indicate (duh...) what things are activated after activating a laser node, 1500 Megawatt Aperture Science Heavy Duty Super-Colliding Super Button, or a button.

Aerial Faith Plates

Pads that launch who ever or what ever stands on them. May vary in strength (based on level)

Turrets

Originally used to guard baby cribs in nurseries, these turrets have developed a hatred for test subjects. Whatever you do, don't run in front of one. They basically shoot bullets... to kill.
You can destroy them by knocking them over, tossing them in a Emancipation grid, or using a laser to burn them. A classic way of killing it is coating it with blue gel, and making it bounce all over the place.

Thermal Discouragement Beam and catcher (Also known as Laser Nodes)

You are suppose to direct a Thermal Discouragement Beam to catchers to activate things. In some levels, you will have to use objects to block the laser, then remove the object to activate the node. You can redirect the laser with Discouragement Redirection Cubes, or portals.

Cubes and big buttons

There are 5 types of these: Weighted Cubes, Weighted Companion Cubes, Discouragement Redirection Cubes, Frankenturrets, and Edgeless Safety Cube. Weighted cubes, Weighted Companion Cubes, and Frankenturrets are basically the same thing, but Frankenturrets can move themselves, sometimes killing themselves by accident. Discouragement Redirection Cube function similarly, but can redirect lasers. Weighted Cubes, Weighted Companion Cubes, Discouragement Redirection Cube, Frankenturrets, and Edgeless Safety Cube can all activate a 1500 Megawatt Aperture Science Heavy Duty Super-Colliding Super Button, as well as the player's body weight, but only Weighted Cubes, Weighted Companion Cubes, Discouragement Redirection Cube, and Frankenturrets, can activate a Weighted Storage Cube Receptacle, whereas only the Edgeless Safety Cube can activate the Edgeless Safety Cube Receptacle.

Hard Light Surface (Light Bridges)

This allows you to build a new platform so that you can either move across bodies of water, you don't get shot by turrets, you don't fall into danger goo when stepping on aerial faith plate, or

Excursion Funnel

Anti-grav transportation tunnels that "funnels" you in either a forward or backwards direction.

Conversion Gel

Made with moonrocks, it is a viscous substance that allows portals to be placed on any coated surface

Propulsion Gel

A viscous substance that increases your speed on top of the gel.

Repulsion Gel

A viscous substance that makes everything it touches bouncy. It allows you to jump higher.

Cleansing Gel

Erases other gels

Signs
Signs basically give you hints about the puzzle.

Laser Fields

It kills you the moment you go through it. It cannot be redirected with Discouragement Redirection Cube.

Bomb

These can kill you, but can also destroy glass, and other things.

TV Screen

These screens can destroyed through bombs, lazers, turrets, or smashing a cube, or your body against it.

Mantis Men
Creatures that you are supposed to attack.
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
Gestures (Co-op)

There are 9 default gestures in total in Coop. Click "Q" to gesture. The gestures are unlocked at different levels in coop:

Wave
Always Available. Waves your hand.

High Five

Rock Paper Scissors
Unlocked after completing 4th chamber of Team Building. Can only be used when near the other bot. Winner celebrates, loser weeps.

Laugh
Complete Team Building to unlock. Makes you laugh like an idiot.

Dance
Complete the 5th chamber of Mass and Velocity to unlock. Dance like an idiot.

Tease
Complete Mass and Velocity to unlock. Can only be used when near the other bot. Annoy your friend by detaching their head from their body. Then, your friend will hurt you.

Hug
Complete the eighth chamber of the Hard Light Surfaces Course to unlock. Can only be used when near the other bot.Time to quote GLaDOS:
"It appears you're developing human traits. The worst human traits."
"Be careful. Hugging can lead to... well, me disassembling you forever."
"Stop touching each other!"

Showoff
Unlocked after completing 4th chamber of Excursion Funnels Course. Show off your portal skills!

Aerial Gesture
Only performable when in the air. Makes you do a back flip.
Tips
If you're lost, there are a couple of things that you should do:

-Walk up to everything, and click "e", especially buttons
-Use the slanted portable surfaces to "fly"
-Stand on the 1500 Megawatt Aperture Science Heavy Duty Super-Colliding Super Button
-Remember that lasers can go through glass walls

General tips

-As tempting as it is, don't coat everything with gel. It's a waste of time, and makes everything hard to control.

But what if it's a brand new map that no one has played?
Warden++  [author] 7 Mar, 2016 @ 7:35am
If you look at the people playing the map, you spoil the puzzle.

I fear it might spoil the story.
