Introduction
Recently* my wife and I descended into apost zombie apocalyptic game of some potential, and in our adventure to learn more about the game we will be working on developing a guide to help out any gamers that survive us in this horrific fictional environment.

Ratings are appreciated!

* This guide started while the game was in Steam Early Access Alpha, and will continue to evolve with the game until we lose interest in it. The contents of this guide may or may not be accurate at any time.
Battle Royale Preperation
When you are in the holding area waiting for the Battle Royale to commence, there are a few things you can do to get ready for your survival. Let's begin with your gear.

This is a little activity I call "Shred Wars."

You will not need your hat, bandana, or gloves. The hat will actually prevent you from picking up a helmet in a hurry when you hit the ground, so shred it right away as it will save you critical time in your first couple minutes collecting gear. The gloves and bandana are purely cosmetic and not needed, as they will not hold items for you, so shred those also unless you like their appearance that much. Use any shreded clothing to craft yourself bandages ahead of time.

Other players may drop their gear in the holding area also, if you see any shredable items, pick them up and craft yourself some more bandages! The more of these you have, the longer you may last out in the gas if you get caught outside the safe zone.

Sunglasses are also worthless, and they are not even shredable. I tend to keep the sunglasses on, as there is no tactical reason to take them off or leave them on, and they do look rather cool.

Boots on the other hand, I need to advise you to remove. Why?

Initially I questioned this myself, as I had seen a lot of spare boots sitting around in holding areas. I thought it might have had something to do with access sound, as I have run into this issue in other first person shooters. I did a trial run without boots to see if it would make a noticable difference in the amount of noise I generated. As I had thought, taking the boots off significantly reduces the amount of sound you make during any traveling specific movement, and your avatar suffers no ill effect from not wearing footwear. Also, boots are now shredable, but give you a different material that is needed for crafting makeshift plate armor.

Some people drop their binocs also, I don't get it. Sometimes these come in really handy locating a vehicle or surveying the area before running out into a possible firezone.

Once you get your gear set, if you actually had time for al lthat, get to a ride and get some practice in or just climb up on the helicoptor and look cool... and don't forget to get your drink ready as it might be a good long match!

Battle Royale Preperation Revisited
With the game split, que times to get into a Battle Royale were significantly reduced. You may have only a minute or two, or even a few seconds to get what you want done before you are parachuting down to the ground. This is a huge improvement to the long wait times we had previously.

To make things even more complicated, recipes are no longer saved on your character after death in a Battle Royale. All recipes that are not default need to be relearned as you need them, and granted there are not as many recipes available in this game mode, there are a few that can help you out in a bind.

Firstly, you want to shred your hat. It's quite simply the most useless piece of clothing on your person, and gets in the way when your trying to pick up a helmet after you land.

A Makeshift Bow and Arrows are not ideal for combat when your running up against players with guns, it's very slim you would win in such a scenario. However, making a bow and arrows may come in handy if you drop in on the same wooded area as another player, where there are no guns available to grab. You won't be able to discover a bow or arrows until you pick up a stick, but you can use the scrap of cloth you have left over to complete the bow recipe.
The use of Skins
Ok, so you got the game, you think your elite, and you want to bling yourself out with the flashiest skins in the game. Why? It makes you more of a target!! Personally I stick to using camoflage as much as possible, and I go for the tan cammos as they tend to blend in better with most terrain, including bushes. Yeah, I've scared the virtual pants off of people shooting them from the bushes because they literally don't see me coming. The skins are an enjoyable part of the game, just don't let them put you in a disadvantage during gameplay.

* After the death of Just Survive, H1Z1's original game mode, all of my skins for King of the Kill went on the Steam Community Market. This game mode may take a while longer to die out, but I believe that Daybreak (or SOE rebranded) will drop the game as soon as it feels it is unprofitable, meaning any money you put into it is wasted. Just like "Just Survive."

As before mentioned, the two of us collaborated on this project. Although we both have given input on the sections we have written and possibly done some minor editing to each others work, we both firmly believe in giving credit where credit is due. Also, as a reader, it might be good to know who's point of view you are reading. Thus, this section is simply meant to inform you of which contributor wrote the other sections of this guide.
