Remapping the controls

If one of the premade controller setups is not to your taste you can rebind the keys to something you are more familiar with.

Simply open one of the .std file shown in the image on the left with a text editor (suggest notepad) and change the values to something you are more comfortable with.

These files can be located in default. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlezone 98 Redux\giddi

Thank you! The Xbox360 configuration had right stick set to up/down to steer left/right. Fixed it swapping the "+ joystick1 Rudder" and "- joystick1 USlider" lines, but then right-joystick right was turning left and left was turning right. That was fixed by changing "+ joystick1 Rudder" to "- joystick1 Rudder" . To match Jump to R3 in the graphic from the guide I swapped the "+ joystick1 Button10" line under the # ACTIVATE TARGET section with "+ joystick1 Button9" in the # ACTIVATE JUMP section.

Notice how in the above Logitech Xtreme 3D Pro image, buttons 10 through 12 don't have any mappings. It's been some time since I tinkered with my LogitechExreme3DPro.std file, but I'm fairly certain those buttons weren't recognized by BZ98 Redux when I tried to map them. As well, don't bother trying to add any new commands to the Input.map file - doesn't work. I have an email from Rebellion Support confirming that it's not possible.

The lack of input customization has been my biggest disappointment with BZ98 Redux. I get that Rebellion is trying to keep with the retro vibe, but games have come a long way since in terms of input device support. I wouldn't recommend anyone attempt this game with the idea that you won't be using a keyboard; it's just too command heavy for that.

Atres Nox: I think prefixing the control with + or - in the .std file determines what direction it interprets the analog controls.
