Console Development Room
The console development is a room which lets you develop your own platforms. They are designed separately from self-produced games.

When creating a own console you have to choose a chipset, a controller, a type of disk, memory and a design as well as a color and a name.

The room needs special benches and some workers to operate. The workers should have high programming skills.

Manufacturing of the console is not handled in-house, so once the design is completed, you don't need to worry about setting up production facilities for it.

Gaining market share for your console depends on releasing good games for it (it can be on other platforms too), having a lot of fans, showcasing it at the annual convention, and of course, marketing.

The chipset is the key component in determining the maximum game size. For example, the 3 MHz chipset can run "B+" size games, while the 7 MHz chipset is the minimum necessary to run "A" size games. Unfortunately, the game size rating is not displayed until after the console design work is finished.

Just wondering, if I do what the real Nintendo does, and produce a bunch of games that are exclusive to my console, does that boost my console's sales? Or does that not affect the sales?

Wow, thank you! This will surely help planning future consoles

Unfortunately, the game size rating is not displayed until after the console design work is finished. I'm going to add this to the guide - as you noted it's essential knowledge :)

Awesome guide. There is only one question I have that does not seem to be covered here or elsewhere. How is the console rating figured (B, B+, A, etc)? Is it based on generation, or carious combinations of things? For instance, there are 5 ratings and 5 console generations, but there are a number of chipsets, memory, and controllers. So how early might one crack into a B+ console for example?
