Gameplay Tips
  • Start your character as a mix of Magic/Charisma for easier early levels. This is because both these stats give you mana, and while you don't actually start with a weapon, you do start with the Fireball spell.

  • Train your stats to 30 before investing your skill points. You can do that in Caredbar after you leave the crypt. The costs are as follows:

    • Magic training: 550g (increases magic to 30)
    • Fighter training: 750g (increases strength to 30 and speed to 25)
    • Music training: 810g (increases charisma to 30)

  • If you recruit Glenead into your party, you automatically learn all magic spells she teaches, but you will LOSE the ability to train Magic, therefore you should take her last.

  • The cheapest you can buy the world map is for 150g, use the Charisma talk option. World map is required for fast travelling between locations.

  • After you leave Crypt, I recommend training then levelling your Charisma first. Higher Charisma = better prices in the shop, but this party member must do all the shopping!

  • There are three ways to beat the Troll:
    1. You can buy lots of mana potions and keep drinking and casting the Web spell. Web costs 40 mana, so 1 mana potion = 2,5 Web spells assuming your Dog has at least 100 mana.
    2. Another way is to stack Physical Defense and take him head on.
      • Learn the Fighter training (increased Str = more HP),
      • Learn the Armor spell (250g) (+14 P.Def while it lasts)
      • Equip all your armor pieces to one "tank" guy who will take the hits.
      • Buy Scutum Shield (req. 30 Str) and Great Helm (req. 30 Str), these are worth the money. Plate gauntlets and boots are not worth the cost. Also buy Leather Vest from the skinner.
Note that even with the listed gear, the Troll can still damage you, especially if you play the highest difficulty level.
    3. The final way is to grind the level of your main character up to 5 using the healing song and playing the flute. Just activate it and keep walking around. When you run out of mana, you can simply sleep or drink a pot and do it again, and you gain XP for playing the music. When you get level 5, you can cast Web spell with both characters, so you can alternate based on who goes first/has mana, which makes the fight fairly easy.

As for damaging the Troll, use dual-wield B4stard Swords* (or One-handed swords, if you don't have Str >= 20). For each move you get to swing both swords at once. In case you chose the "tank" way, let your support guy use a bow/crossbow or at least shoot Fireballs.
    * Steam censors the word Bastard ...

  • Before going to the Slave ship, get yourself at least two stacks of cheapest food for each party member, so that you don't starve.

  • Slave ship is your first unlimited source of gold. You can use the Slaver horn to summon infinite amount of half-giants, which drop their hammers as loot. Simply stand on the spot, enter your inventory and drag the Horn to your character to the right, as if you used a potion. Since you can only enter the ship once, buy your guys some big bags before going.
For example, I used only Pouch bags for my team, and after the Slave Ship, everyone in my party of 4 now has stats increased to 30+, full set of leather armor, battle hood and magic weaponry.
@devs, if you consider this a bug, just make the Slaver horn as consumed on use.

  • The attacks of underwater creatures have a chance to poison you. You can buy some antidote at the Magic stuff vendor.

  • The attacks of werewolves turn your party member into a werewolf. Werewolf drops all his equipment on the ground, so don't forget to pick up your equipment. Again, the Magic stuff vendor sells some serum for that.

  • Fiery weapon enchantment applies only to your left hand weapon slot, so no dual fiery sword for you. But the enchantment applies to every single hit you perform, therefore using Fiery weapon and then using Multiple hit or Multiple shot maneuvers is very effective.

  • You can make Ghosts corporeal by using the True Sight spell.

  • Spells that damage an area can cause harm to your party aswell, be careful.

  • You can pre-cast buffs like Armor or Invisibility on your party before a fight begins, but any spells that normally lasts for the duration of a fight will only last a few moves when out of combat.

  • If one of your mages dies BEFORE you leave Caredbar with the villagers, you will not be able to continue the game and you have to start over.

  • If one of your mages dies AFTER you left Caredbar with the villagers and if you don't have the Ressurection song yet, you can still continue the game, but AFAIK you need at least 6 alive mages to complete the game (in order to open a door in the temple).
Bugs
  • If you ever see some loot drop, then disappear on the ground, save your game and load it again. The loot will become visible.

I was watching some youtube videos and I stumbled upon another unlimited source of food and money. You can eat or sell the fish from the labyrinth, and you can take as many as you want.

Let all seven mages play Recovery using both instruments = infinite XP

There is a satiating song available from the trainer in town so no need to buy food, ever (because you have infinite mana from Recovery song)

Loot song in city of bones gives roughly 50000 gold if you sell all the loot with Lucias and thats enough to buy battlemage gear for the whole party

Bow is ridiculously OP against renegade mages in Skeldal do not try to beat them with magic. Play speed song for 6 moves a turn and shoot them to oblivion with Dog.

If you need to position yourself for melee attacks or escape, do not run with all party members. Move one member as far as his action points allow with one action left and then cast mass teleport to move whole party to him. Next mage repeats this until you are standing where you need to.

There are 2 characters that come into your party with high charisma, and they make the best bards, but it wouldn't hurt to train one person instantly to 30 so you can buy food cheaper and to sell your weapons from the ship and swamp at a higher price.

The Looter song can make a huge difference in gold income. In fact, monsters that don't drop loot (like the Ice Golems you can farm because they respawn) actually start to drop weapons and loot if you play that song (might need to be level 3 song, not sure). Every fight you should be ending with either "Genius" or "Looter". Genius can basically get your characters to level up 2x faster, so if you have enough gold and weapons, it should be your main song.

On your map, drag the little man icon to anywhere on your map and you'll go there instantly. If you aren't exploring an area, you should use this mechanic as much as possible (especially underwater). You don't consume food or mana when doing this!

Great guide. I love it.
Here's another tip.

If you want unlimited gold and XP, keep one of the Necromancer in the swamp alive.
The swamp can be done even before the slave ship, and you can always go back to the swamp as many times as you like.

For me, whenever I need XP or money, I just go back to the Swamp, and fight the monsters spawn by the Necromancer. I do not kill the Necromancer. I move away from the necromancer, and let all the drowned soldiers come towards me. I just kill them and they will leave lots of swords and shield on the floor.

Later when there are lots of loot on the floor, I will walk away from the Necromancer, and once I am out of range, the fight will end. I then go back and pick up all the loot, and sell them for 21g and 18g respectively. By filling all the big bags, I can make thousands of gold per trip.
