Game modes
There are 2 main game modes available on the game servers:
  • Player versus Player or PvP
  • Player versus Enemy or PvE

PvP
Players can hurt and kill other players without penalties.

PvE
Players can hurt but not kill other players. Even when you hit an other player, this doesn't do any real damage to the other player, yet you will get flagged by the system. After a yet to determine time in game you didn't hit any other player, the flag will be removed and a system message on the right side on your screen will say when.

As a new player, I'd recommend trying a PvE server first. The PvP servers tend to get you killed fast ;-)

Communication
Chatting
You can chat with other players by pressing ENTER and pressing
  • F1: Proxy chat with players near you
  • F2: Global chat with players online
  • F3: Clan chat with players within your clan
  • F4: Group chat with players within your group
Type in your text and press ENTER again to send.

VoIP
Using your microphone, you can talk to players near you when pressing T.

Grouping
You can choose to play solo or to group up with other players.
To see the list of players, press TAB. Right click a player name to invite the player to your group. In the same screen, you can accept any group request you receive by right clicking the player name who sent you an invite and clicking "Accept invitation".

Inventory
Player inventory
The player inventory can be accessed by pressing I.

You can purchase equipment using game dollars that either can acquired by exchanging GC (gold coins) you have purchased with real money, either can be earned by selling items you have scavenged at the game store. Within a safe zone, find the "store" and press E to access it.

The storage room available in the player inventory is determined by the level of backbag you have currently equipped. You start with a "schoolbag lvl 1". Look around for backbags with a higher level, to have more storage room. When you find one, be sure to equip it in the player inventory by right clicking the backbag and choosing "Equip".

In the player inventory, you can also equip your weapons, armor and quick items. You can equip:
  • 1 primary weapon and 1 secondary weapon
  • 2 armor parts
  • 4 quick items like drinks, food, medicins and crafted items, assigned to button 3 - 4 - 5 and 6.

The player inventory is temporary, meaning that all items, except those flagged as not to be dropped on player death, will disappear when not recollected and are only available on the server you are playing on.

Global inventory
The global inventory can be accessed within safe zones. Find the "storage" room within a safe zone and press E.
The global inventory is permanent, meaning that all items will stay there when not recollected and are available on all servers you are playing on.

Crafting
You can craft many if not all items yourself, if you have found and learned the blueprint for it. All players already know how to craft a campfire and bandages at the beginning.
Look around for other blueprints. When you find a blueprint, go to your player inventory, right click the blueprint and choose "learn" to permanently unlock the crafting recipe for your player. If you find blueprints you already have learned, you can trade these with other players.

In the upper part of the player inventory screen, select "CRAFTING" to go to your crafting screen. If you have the crafting materials for it, select the item you want to craft and click on "CRAFT" in the right corner of the screen. To get crafting materials, right click an item within the player inventory and choose "Disassemble". You can disassemble items to get:
  • Wood
  • Stone
  • Chemicals
  • Adhesive
  • Cloth
  • Toolbox
  • Parts
  • Metal parts
  • Glass parts
  • Plastic
For example, disassemble a weapon to get "Toolbox", "Parts" and "Metal parts". To get "Stone", disassemble some "Charcoals". To get "Wood", disassemble a "Junkbox". If you have a "harvesting hatchet tool", you can harvest "Wood" from trees or special harvesting resources likes a pile of wooden logs, found around the world. Equip the "harvesting hatchet tool", get near a harvesting resource and press Y to start harvesting.
Game objectives
Player condition
You can see your current player's condition in the left side corner on your screen.
  • The player's stamina level is the outer ring around the depicted human
  • The player's hunger level is the inner curve left from the depicted human, next to the fork. When fully depleted, the player dies from starvation
  • The player's thirst level is the inner curve right from the depicted human, next to the droplet. When fully depleted, the player dies from thirst.

To keep the player alive, be sure to use bandages when bleeding, to drink clear water and eat any type of food you can find to maintain the hunger and thirst level and to use medicines when the player has been infected or is poisoned.
You can cook some types of food or purify dirty water when standing near a campfire. Within the player inventory, right click on the food item / dirty bottle of water and choose "Cook" / "Purify".
When you have a "purification tablet" and a bottle of "dirty water", you can purify the dirty water by right clicking on it within the player inventory and choose "Purify".
When you have an empty bottle, you can fill it by standing near a water source and by right clicking on an empty bottle within the player inventory and choose "Fill".

Fight or flee
Don't get eaten by zombies! Kill zombies with your bare hands or preferably using any weapon you have equipped. Press 1 to use your main weapon or press 2 to use your secondary weapon. Press in the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON to attack.

You can sneak around zombies by crouching. To crouch, press and hold LEFT CTRL.

When you find yourself surrounded are have too many zombies trying to have you for dinner, find higher grounds. Just jump on anything that is higher than a bed and press SPACEBAR to jump on it. To jump even higher, sprint by pressing LEFT SHIFT and then SPACEBAR.
As long as your player stamina bar in the left side corner on your screen hasn't been fully depleted, you can jump. Keep an eye on it, by pauzing player movement and actions.

Remember that you can outrun a zombie. Press NUMLOCK to automatically keep sprinting or press and hold LEFT SHIFT.

Liberate a zombie infested area
This objective will need a group of at least 4 players. To liberate an area, you can either try to repair the generators within the area by getting fuel for it, either try to kill 100% of the zombies within the area.
