Downloading the SDK and files needed
Installing the SDK
1. Extract the contents of 'mm_sdk_sp.7z' using 7-Zip. It should contain two Game Cache Files.

2. With GCFScape installed, double-click a Game Cache File to open it. In the window that appears, select all folders and extract them to: Steam\steamapps\common\dark messiah might and magic singleplayer

3. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Dark_Messiah:_Single-Player_Level_Creation Go to this site, skip to "Extracting the Dark Messiah VPKS" and complete that step and the "Configuring the Hammer editor" step

4. go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player\platform\Resource and copy everything with mdl in front of it (example mdlpicker)

5. Paste it into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player\mm\resource

6. Launch hammer, and enjoy.

If there is any problems with hammer, please ask me. I got it working. I may of missed a few steps on here as i spent a month figuring this all out.

Remember, place a info_node on ground where npcs will be. Without it, when enemys fall over, they die instantly.

I discovered a solution to the white texture problem with displacements. To fix, all mentions of "envmap" and "normalmapalphaenvmapmask" inside the materials' .vmt files should be commented out. That is, the lines should be prefixed with "//" (without the quotes).

i'd recommend TopHATTWaffle hammer tutorials, they're not dark messiah specific, but they're good and should have enough information you'll need to start

though, the dark messiah sdk isn't officially released and is quite buggy, so save often, and prepare to do a lot of trial and error lol

It's not easy to understand Hammer for me (after years with Creation Kit ;)) ... do you know some online guides?

looks like the missing rope texture issue is just entity has default rope texture set instead of another one, as for the other one, probably forgot to set the trigger on that to animate

I think it would be possible, iirc, all the original vmf files for each map are in the game

Hopefully not a dead topic but I followed all of these steps and cannot launch the game configuration for dark messiah in hammer tools; hammer tools does not seem to know where to locate the files I assume. Anyone else run into this?

The sdk comes with the original maps under steamapps\common\Dark Messiah Might and Magic Single Player\mm_content\mapsrc, you can open up the VMFS in hammer to edit
