Making maps
Although this tutorial is about map making, It is not going to teach you about hammer and how to map... however to remedy this I would like to point you newer members to mapping to a man known as UEAKCrash, who is known maps such as Glassworks, Probed, Moonshine Event, and Trainsawlaser!

He has a Mapping tutorial series on his Youtube channel talking about how to make proper maps by using the resorces given to you by hammer and a few neat tricks that have helped me get started within mapping!

Screenshots on maps
I have seen screenshots for maps that may have a few things wrong with them, either the quality is not that good, the hud for the gamemode is visable, or the name of the map is plastered onto the picture in white from MS paint...

So here are some requirements when uploading your maps...

  • 1. Your hud must NOT be visable in your screenshots and they must be in best quality.
in order to fix this problem, please follow these instructions:
  • 1. Please go into your options menu and select Graphics
  • 2. Raise all of your settings to the maximum setting it may go to.
  • 3. Go to your console by pressing the "~" key
  • 4. type "sv_cheats 1" into the console
  • 5. Join spectator and open back up the console
  • 6. Type in the following and go back into your game "cl_drawhud 0"
  • 7. Fly around your map and take screenshots of places on your map that seem to provide interesting gameplay results.

  • 2. Next when creating a title card please do not do the following:

Do not put the title of the map within the preview, players can already see the name of the map under the preview.

Please make sure your preview/title card is in good quality.
Test Often
With sites such as tf2maps.net you can be able to upload your maps on a gameday or an impromtu test to see what layout works and what doesn't. The testers are other mappers like yourself who dedicate themselves to their map making hobbie an will help you with any feedback needed!

@kek To upload to the workshop is the same process as uploading a hat to the workshop, click workshop on the tf2 main menu, check the upload to workshop, choose the maps catagory, upload any info and pictures you need for the map, select your map's bsp, and upload!
