How to fix flickering textures / weird physics & .ini file settings
By Res1s7
Running this game without having made any modifications leads to flickering textures and major physics problems. Steam does state that it requires Windows XP but I encourage players to ask for a proper fix from Steam/Gearbox. I recommend some .ini settings as well that improves mouse movement and enables EAX.

1. Create a shortcut from the game executable in the game "System" directory (eib.exe).

2. Use shortcut to set compatability mode to Windows XP Pack 3.

3. Set run as administrator (not sure if this step is absolutely necessary).

4. Use the Task Manager or better something like Process Lasso to set game executable (eib.exe) CPU affinity to a single core, preferably not the first core (core 0) as the windows system uses that.

5. Edit User.ini file C:\Users\tempo\AppData\Roaming\Gearbox Software\Earned In Blood\JoeHartsock\

6. Set MouseSmoothingMode to 0.

7. Set bEnableEAX to true.

8. Edit eib.ini in same folder.

9. Set DesiredRefreshRate to the refresh rate of your monitor.

10. Set UseDefaultDriver to false (Star Wars Republic Commando - same engine - "This tells the Unreal Audio Engine to load OpenAL32.dll from the \windows\system32 folder which will result in a native OpenAL being used." - http://web.archive.org/web/20130702030043/http://connect.creativelabs.com/alchemy/Lists/Games/AllItems.aspx

I think that's everything. Enjoy the glory that is BiA !

Imho, a good addition to this guide would be how to rename the intro.bik so the unskippable "good old days" Ubisoft intro video is gone and the game loads straight off.

However, the jingle and the old Ubi logo let me know that it's a good game, from the days when Ubi were still a decent publisher and not "nUbisoft franchise machine", churning out the same, unoriginal trash every year and receiving record profits for doing so.

There is also no need to install DX9 for this game and this first time setup can be safely ignored, considering most players will be using DX12 operating systems with which DX9 is "incompatible" (supersceded).

Good guide - It appears to have helped a lot of people. +rep, Res1s7 :Hand_Shake:

EAX and OpenAL are audio drivers. These will be automatically updated in later version of windows and backwards compatible (w/e 3d audio).

There is no need to choke your CPU in order for this game to run on windows 10, with latest drivers (its appearance, such as DSR or AA, can even be improved using the nvidia/ati panel options).

It is highly unlikely that Gearbox nor Ubi will "fix" any of these old games - it is down to fans to patch and devise solutions to keep them running on modern hardware.
