Basics

This is a brief guide on how to add stone and wooden structures to your maps.

First of all, you should know where to find your Castle Story saves and map files. They are located inside your Castle Story installation folder. You can find your installation folder by:

1. Right clicking on Castle Story in your Steam Library ans selecting properties > 2. Selecting the Local Files tab > 3. Selecting the Browse Local Files button.

Inside the Info folder are the folders containing all your saves, your custom maps and other files.

1. Your Saves are located in the Saves folder
2. Your custom maps are located in the Maps file, under the UGC folder.

Your map file should be named after the very first name you saved the map as, plus a random set of numbers

eg. Cryptique_f50e7a41-b523-4cd5-b39d-c0e3e735d3fc.
Build your structures

To add blocks to a map, we are going to need a map. Go ahead and create one in the world editor. Your map will need to have at least one spawn crystal, so sandbox mode is playable.

Once that is done, open the map in sandbox mode and build your structures.

Important: You will want to remove any stumps and quarry stairs that are in your world, otherwise they will copy across with your structures. The easiest way to do this is via creating a build task, using ctrl + left clicking on all stumps to mark them for removal, then getting your bricktrons to work on the task. Don't worry about stockpiles!

Once your structures are built and all stumps and quarry stairs are removed, go ahead and save your game.

Tip: Save it as the name of your map!
Replacing placedblock.json
Tip: Create a backup of your map and saves, so if something doesn't work out you can always revert the changes!

With the map saved, we now want to open up the save file and copy the placedblocks.json file.

Now head to your map folder and paste it in. Choose to replace the files.

If everything went smoothly, you should now have a structure ready in your map when you load it up again!

This is what happens when you don't remove stumps and quarry stairs.

I hope this guide has been helpful to you!

TL;DR
  • Create a map in the world editor
  • Open the map up in sandbox and create your structures
  • Save your sandbox map
  • Replace the placedblocks.json file from your maps folder with the new one from your save

this is too complex, why cant you just make the map spawn in and make your starter stuff or whatever your maps gonna be with debug mode then save the world and bring it back to editor?

Spartan598 - slow reply but I made this site a while back to extract what you want from the json file and paste it in the map. https://wemyss.github.io/castle-story/
