Courageous Carrier (Stock)

The Courageous was one of the earlier carrier designs built by HDY, yet it remains in service until today. The Courageous is often referred to as a Flight Deck Cruiser, or a Battle Carrier, because of its armament, which is quite capable for a carrier vessel. HDY Engineers also incorporated a new bow section into the design, which houses well-protected breaking thrusters aswell as a lethal barrage of four fixed Rocket Pods. Furthermore, the turret armament rivals that of a Destroyer, and allows the Courageous to fight off smaller capital ships, even with its Fighter wing out of position.
HDY had never created a ship of this class before, so the development proved complicated. The Ori Republic wanted the ship to be able to carry a full squadron of at least five fightercraft, however, the company's small wallet crushed some of the larger designs. This resulted in a relatively compact hull, that called for a rather complex hangar layout: Three of the fighters are stored in a tight fit in the ship's center, and face aftwards to the main hangar doors. There, two additional fightercraft find their place. The Fighters themselves, the successful Saber Light Fighters, posess exellent maneuverability, but trade this with limited effectiveness against capital ships (This was another reason for the Courageous' strong armament). The small hangar bay also made scrambling and recalling the fighterwing difficult, and therefor, the Courageous would have to fully commit to an engagement, as landing the fighters during combat was very dangerous. Another weakness of the ship was its limited operation range, which made regular resupply necessary. Crews also complained about cramped living conditions aboard.
However, despite its shortcomings, the ship was mass-produced, and put into active service. Its main field of expertises remains combat with a fleet, where the Courageous uses its Fighters to gain space superiority over its opponents, or shields its allies by engaging enemy bombers and providing AA support.
