How to use photoshop for trading.
By Spegg
Ever wanted to make something in photoshop that you can then go on to use practically. For example it could be used to market your skins easier or to sell to other people.

Well this guide should put you on your way to making one.

Requirements
Yes Photoshop is reccomended as i will be leading this guide in photoshop with images to back it up. Though bear in mind alot of the features from photoshop carry on to other programs so you may be able to recreate this guide in gimp for example. (Gimp is a free alternative to photoshop and not too bad in that sense either.)

Unless you find a showcase of your specific knife on G images you will have some trouble showcasing your knife to a decent res as to make a good image you will most likely need to use screenshots from the game.

I can generally make an image in around half an hour or less, however from starting out it will likely take an hour or two if you are inexperienced with PS or GIMP. So to sum things up you will need a bit of patience.
Backing screenshot
Ok so now you will want a screenshot to go behind your knife.
For this you will need to load up csgo and go onto any map. (Im going to be using D2 night for this showcase, though feel free to use any map you want.)
Use the commands
r_drawviewmodel 0
cl_drawhud 0
and if you need to net_graph 0
To remove everything from your screen.

At his point, you want to decide what graphics you wish to use for this. (Im sure you can figure it out yourself but i highly reccomend using the higher side of graphics for this.)

For example this is the image i was left with.

The knife screenshot
Ok at this point you want to get your selected knife equipped and load into a greenscreen map.
Personally i used this one. https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=385824637&searchtext=greenscreen

Once on this map you will want to remove the hud only with hud_enable 0. This will hopefully leave you with just you and your knife skin etc. If not make sure sv_cheats 1 is enabled and enter this is console. give weapon_ak47 (Ofc you can change this to suit the gun for the skin you have.)

Now that you have your desired skin in your hands you need to inspect it while facing the greenscreen. (Use f12 to cap a screenshot mid inspect or wherever you want it to take a picture of.

I dont really have a good skin to trail this with so i will be using my ♥♥♥♥ on a stick.

Once again this is what i am left with.

Now you might be wondering why this part is necesary as you could have kept the viewmodel enabled on the first image. This can be answered by the fact it is far easier to manipulate and position if it is a seperate layer. Otherwise you will have holes in your background when moving the knife in ps.
Getting your layers ready

Ok so firstly you want to open up your background image in photoshop (File/open/background)

Now you will want to create a new layer. this can be done by clicking the small file icon in the bottom right.

.

Now you want to go back to your greenscreen image and copy it. After doing this you paste it into photoshop with your second (new) layer selected

Removing the greenscreen
As this is quite a lengthy process i got perms from Kub- kun- KubanaN to feature his well made guide here. Basically open this in a new tab and follow it through.

(Excuse my laziness on this one. I don't fancy spending another hour saving and uploading gifs when there is a perfectly good example here
Positioning
Ok so now, if you followed all the instructions correctly, you should be left with something that looks like this.

If this is the case then you are on the right track, if not then its probably best to retrace your steps and see where you messed up.

Ok so now, if you have your knife layer selected, you should be able to right click and click "free transform" as shown here.

If you have nothing selected (with lasso tool or pen tool etc) you should be able to free transform the layer, This means being able to move and manipulate it.
I will be mainly keeping the knife in its original place for this as im planning on having the details and text of the knife on the left. (this is not compulsory so be creative.)

Text background
Ok now that you have positioned your knife in the way you want it to be its time to add the text.
The text will most likely look out of place if just placed in the open, so its probably best to add a background for the text.

To do this you want to create another layer and select the "rectangular marquee tool" as shown here.

Now if you go onto your image (with the new empty layer selected) hold lmb and drag the mouse across releasing to finish off the square/rectangle.

Now you can press G as a hotkey to switch to the paint bucket tool and from there you want to click inside the rectangle you have created. (Bear in mind those two colours under the toolbar will be the ones you are going to be using, Click on them to change them, oh and also to note, CNTRL+ALT+Z removes your recent actions, so if you make a mistake somehow you can remove it)

This is my result so far (Yes you can free transform this new shape as shown

-OPTIONAL-
After doing this, you may duplicate your layer by right clicking on it (right hand side where you select it) and then clicking duplicate slide.
Green is rather contrast to red so i will be using it as a back layer for the back layer

I highly recommend making as many backgrounds for as much text as you're planning to use.

Gradients for text background
Ok so now you have a text background, you want to select it. Do this by selecting the magic wand tool (w) and selecting the rectangle you want to add a gradient to then watch as the black/white box surrounds the rectangle.

After doing this right click on the paint bucket tool and click gradient tool. (make sure the colours you have selected are black/white yes the ones under the toolbar. An easy way to do this is click the black/white box that is on the top left of the colours.)

Then in the selection you want to drag the gradient tool across it. (make sure the opacity top middle is a small amount like 10%)

Ok now repeat on all the rectangles you have.

My current end result looks like this.

Adding the text
Ok now to add text.

Click (t) to switch to the text tool and you can modify the size with the stuff top middle (just like what you did with the opacity)

Most of the default windows fonts will appear dull or boring, so downloading some online is not a bad idea.

Again you can fully modify this text and rotate it all you want with free transform along with resizing.
Though once you're happy with your text you might want to add a gradient to it as well.
To do this you want to rasterize the layers created when you made the text.
This can be done in the same way you duplicated your rectangle layers except you click rasterize type.

Now that you have done this, you can rearrange select and do basically whatever you want to your text. (so again its in your own hands to make something with this.)

This is my end result
Finalising
Ok now to finalis, you are going to want to make sure nothing is selected and then select your background layer that has probably started accumulating dust2
by now.

Now go to filter/blue/gaussian blur and adjust the slider to a amount you are happy with.
What this does it blurs the background making the main attention to be onto the knife and makes it easier to distinguish from the background.

After doing this you should be good to go.
Save your image both as a psd and a jpeg without merging the files. (this makes it easier to go back and edit small details or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you may have done.)

This is my final result

HOWEVER i have done some further editing in photoshop etc and have made advancements to this... If you want tuts on this stuff as well feel free to leave a like or something idk.

Requests etc
Ok so say you dont want to waste your time with the above etc, i am willing to remake each of these images with your skins, The only thing i require is the image of your skin against the green screen. (This is not free as i am generally rather busy though i take almost any form of payment if your offering... add me for details)

Ok so say you want to help me out, a mere like or fave would be appreciated, however if you nutters are willing to donate or offer me a trade for my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, i will leave my trade link here.

Nice guide, thanks for making it. Btw, F12 isn't the best way to capture a screenshot. Steam always saves screenshots as a jpg, so there's always going to be some artifacting. If you use the print screen button, then paste into an image editor, it'll make a pixel-perfect image.
