Clean Zoey Legs (Mod a Mod 2.0)

This mod can be used along with my “Zoey wearing shorts” mod in order to modify the leg textures I included there. I’m creating this as a demonstration of how to set up a custom model such that it can be reskinned by a different mod without having to include all the model files.


For non-modders
Go subscribe to my Zoey wearing shorts mod. You MUST have have it in order for this to do anything.
(Also works with my Local Zoey Randomizer)


For Modders: How to set this up

The way it works is that I’ve set up my Zoey wearing shorts model (within the .qc file, prior to recompiling) to look for textures in the following locations, in this order:

$CDMaterials "models\survivors\TeenAngst\reskins\"
$CDMaterials "models\survivors\TeenAngst\"
$CDMaterials "models\survivors\"
$CDMaterials ""

In the base mod which contains the model (Zoey wearing shorts) the textures are in “materials\models\survivors\TeenAngst\”

However, in this clean legs mod, (which has no model) the textures are in “materials\models\survivors\TeenAngst\reskins\”
So when both mods are active, the game will preferentially choose the clean legs, because that folder is listed first. If the game doesn't find the VMT it is looking for in that folder it checks the next one on the list. It does this until it finds the files it wants, and then it stops.


So in conclusion, all you need to do it add another $CDMaterials ABOVE the one where the VMTs actually are. Anyone can then mod your mod by setting up new textures in that new higher priority folder you specified.

This is of course just a basic example. Ellie is already gushing about all kinds of fancy things that you can do, so expect to see more mods like this!
