Hey fellow Steam Gem of the Aztecs player! This is my first guide, so please forgive any mistakes I may make in approach, presentation, grammer, gameplay, etc. Gem of the Aztecs is not a difficult game, which makes it a great candidate for a person's first guide. Even so I hope that you will find some useful information herein to enhance your enjoyment of the game!

Early in the game you are introduced to the "Magical Fan", which I refer to as the "color bonus", since it removes all tokens of a single color from the board. Refer to the image below.



You are awarded a Magical Fan token by creating a 5-in-a-row match, as illustrated below. The 5 tokens must be in a stright line. Any other formulation of 5 or more tokens will not result in the color bonus.



You can also spend some coins to start with a Magical Fan token already on the playfield.

At first glance the color bonus may not seem as useful as some of the other special tokens, such as the bomb; however, when executed in the correct way it can create some spectacular explosion and clear the playfield of just about anything not indestructible on it.

First, you can chose to buy a Magical Fan at the start of a level if you really want to, but I prefer to amass all my coins into a giant treasure pile, even though there is no achievement or really any other reason for doing so. Or you can create them yourself via attention to the the gameboard.



Second, and this can take a little skill or luck, as the case maybe, you must maneuver another special token directly next to the color token, as you can see in the image above.

Third, you want to swap the Magical Fan token with the other special token, be it a bomb or row clearing token, to perform the magic, if you will pardon the pun. Instead of removing all the tokens of the same color as the special token, this action will replace all of the same colored gem tokens, except those that are chained, with a copy of the special piece. Although in the case of a row bonus it is random as to which direction the new token will be facing. The screen shot below illustrates what I am describing, including that the newly created bonus point in varying directions..



Finally, sit back and watch the plethora of explosions rack up points, clear the board of nearly everything, fill your star bar and make you feel like a hero! Well done player... well done!



I had the rare opportunity to combine 2 Magical Fan bonus token together and it literally cleared every token from the board, at 50 points per gem token. In addition, though not as spectacular, you can combine other special bonus tokens together to form a more powerful version. Maximizes your bonus tokens for larger scores..
