Description
Smartphones, who doesn't want them? Well, your prisoners do, so sometimes they get one smuggled through the mail. Unfortunately for them, some of the newest shiny smartphone models turn out to have faulty batteries and could explode...anytime!

Perhaps it was a set up and somebody from outside wanted to kill a prisoner on purpose
Or perhaps it was just very bad luck to receive one of these faulty smartphones.


Chances
There is a 25% chance for a prisoner to get a smartphone from the mail, and there is a small chance that it will explode within 360~720 minutes.


Who?
To get to know a bit more about who sent a phone, have a look at the Opened Mail of the prisoner. Phones always come with a message. But the Opened Mail doesn't stay for long, you will have to be quick. Best way would be to keep an eye on the Mailroom and follow a guard who delivers mail.


What if...
If you find one (listen carefully for ringtones or watch for smoke above cells), you can seize it to make some profit. Those things are expensive (800 bucks) and shouldn't be in their cell, right? It's possible to Sell it for immediate cash, or to send it to Exports with the Seize button.

Or, you can decide to just let them play with their explosive gadget for as long as it lasts, and then clean up the bloody mess afterwards. Perhaps the prisoner wasn't one of your favourites anyway...


Notes
Smartphones will stay for a maximum of a few days, then they either vanish into thin air or explode if it was crappy. Meanwhile they can settle Family and Recreation needs.


Research
Smartphones are smuggled into the prison regardless of the research status. Researching the SmartPhones enables you to buy the Rigged SmartPhone which always explodes within 10-60 minutes, and the Rigged SmartPhone Spawner which can spawn phones on every bed within 25 square tiles. The explosion will hurt people nearby and could even kill somebody who is really close. Some extra tough prisoners would like to eat two or three phones before they die.


Counter actions
After numerous reports of injured and dead people, the warden decided to order some SmartPhone Detectors: a wall-mounted device which checks for SmartPhones every 300 minutes in a square range of 25 tiles. It should be placed in the centre of cell blocks and it will show currently seized and total seized SmartPhones statistics. This device will effectively make sure there will be no uncontrolled smartphone explosions. Only rigged phones placed by yourself will blow up. Detected smartphones will be seized and deleted/exported, depending on what you specify with the button on the detector.


Finance
Basically this mod is a small money maker for your prison. It's a matter of hovering above the cells to collect your 800 bucks with every phone you find. If you want this to be automated, then use the Detectors in your cell blocks to seize phones. At the end of the day a nice profit will be added to your finance sheet, depending on how many prisoners received a phone by mail. Since the phone is expensive, expect easily a few grand per day!


Update:
- NEW: Smart Phone Factory: send your prisoners to work and magically turn blank licence plates into smart phones for export. But beware, they can always produce a faulty model, leading to explosions in your factory! You'd better put a SmartPhone Detector at that workshop as well if you want to prevent that from happening...
- The SmartPhone Detector now has a button to toggle if detected phones should be deleted or exported. When set to Delete Phones, it will simply remove them, so no cash gets added to the bank balance. Detected smartphones will now be deleted by default if you have them already deployed in your prison. You will have to press its button to send them to Exports again if you wish to gain money from it.
- Fixed a bug where a SmartPhone would try to delete smoke when there isn't any, when his timer ends and it should delete itself.
- Added the intercepted letter to the tooltip of a Seized SmartPhone. These letters can also be read in the Opened Mail, but those vanish quite soon.
- Added the nasty Rigged Phone Spawner: a device which does the opposite of the SmartPhone Detector. Place this thing in the middle of a CellBlock and it will spawn a Rigged Phone on every bed it detects within 25 square meters. Fun at night to bring some random explosions and injury/death into your prison if you want to torture them. The Rigged Phone Spawner will work as soon as it is placed, and then delete itself when finished placing phones on the beds.
- Changed time to sort mail on the sortingdesk: it used to be 15, is now 5. So sorting fresh mail goes 3x faster than before. Prisoners will receive their mail early in the mornings instead of the afternoon, as long as there are free guards available to sort and deliver the mail.

Having problems with your mail room? Try to zone it as Shared and only let Guards do the mail sorting, no need for working prisoners there. I found out zoning it as StaffOnly will not trigger the sorted mail from being delivered, but making it Shared almost immediately attaches the mail satchels to a job in the queue.

Blank licence plates is by design, not a bug. Read above :)

I was able to fix it by changing the output of the press to LicensePlateBlank and then it all started to work.

Seems to be working fine, with the exception of the phone table, getting loaded with blank license plates rather than pressed aluminum. However, it does work for a few minutes before a working come and puts in blank license plates which stops production.

Mod update:

- Changed size of "Smart" Phone Table, you might need to reorganize the Phone Factory
- Phone production now uses Sheet Aluminium instead of blank licence plates
- Added Aluminium Storage Rack to buffer incoming sheets of aluminium
- Added "Smart" Phone Press, used to produce Pressed Aluminium for the phone tables
- Added Small Table (Phones) to store assembled and seized phones
- Added "Smart" Phone Genius to lead the reform program instead of a teacher
- Added animation for the battery explosion of an exploding phone
- "Smart" Phone Detector can now show its covered area

Okay yes, that's what caused the fire then. Some prisoner in the garden probably had their phone explode while they were working, but I didn't notice because it's not usually fatal. That's fine with me, it helps liven up the less dangerous prisons.
