What you want to do immediately is go over to the map at the front of the cabin, select the "Salvation" stop, set the train's speed to slow, and go on your way. The reason for slow speed? Simple; it takes less fuel, so less time gathering said fuel, so profit. Also, less annoying passengers. Then you just sleep, speed up time and repeat until you run out of fuel.

NOTE

Do NOT pick up ANY passengers yet. They will only eat all your food, then you're going to have to scavenge, etc. Basically, they waste time.

If you are lucky, you will already be at Salvation. Good for you.

However, most of you have run out of fuel. So, now you launch a Beacon to attract passengers, then launch a Hail Mary to send those passengers to collect fuel. At least one passenger may die, but he will never be remembered.

Now you have passengers. Yay. Now, pretend that they don't exist, and keep on moving to Salvation.

Now, you are at Salvation with two or three passengers, with some hope and a poor score. I will now tell you how to shorten your time.

• Firstly, you can shorten the length of a normal day by practically spamming Tab once you are out of bed. This will work until you have to do something.
  
• Secondly, you can shorten most cutscenes as follows; Nightmares you can Tab through, Military you press Esc, and Purges you have to live with.
  
• Finally, you do not need to be anywhere that is not next to your bed for large portions of the game. You only need to move when you need to Hail Mary, launch a Beacon, or set off the train for the first time.
