The game is hard for beginners
Yes, I know it, you know it. The game is really unforgiving at the beginning, I died too and not just once, but let me tell you that it is getting better really fast. Here are some very simple tips to survive as a beginner.
Take your time.
Nowadays we have two kinds of games. The ones we run through and the ones we really have to chew on. Technomancer is kind of in the middle. But you are not forced to sprint through the game, we are not in a speedrun here. Back off and run when you dont feel like you can make it. Go craft some more potions and come back.
Learn your fighting styles
Do the tutorial at the beginning for the basic controls, but believe me, you cant learn more than that. You will never face just one enemy and they will attack more frequently. Use the first mission with your master to learn the styles.

Warrior (Staff)
  • Attack multiple Enemies at once
  • long range
  • slow attack speed

Guard (Shield)
  • very tanky, can block attacks
  • moderate attack speed
  • short range

Rogue (Knife and Pistol)
  • very fast
  • many critical hits
  • can attack over large distances with knife and gun
  • VERY fragile

What about technomancy? I dont really see technomancy as a fighting style. You cant use it just by yourself, you will have to mix it with the weapons or you will die.

As I said, use the mission with your master to learn the playstyles. The group sizes you will face are moderate to large, but your master cant be defeated. he does fight even with 0HP. If you have to, take one enemy at the time (which you should with every fighting style at the beginning).
Specialize in one build
That counts for every RPG. Specialize in one fighting style, dont put points in every tree. You wont get to the good skills and stay weak.
This is where technomancy comes in. You can mix every fighting style with technomancy, you just have to concider if you really need certain skills from the technomancy tree when you have build XY. I personally think that the magnetic armor doesnt make much sense with a Guard build. Lightning strike doesnt work very well with a Rogue build, because you will shoot more often (more damage and more shots before reloading). Yes, it is personal preference, but just think if you need a skill of another tree, you may need it in your main tree.
Know your buddies
You will not fight without companions, so learn what they can do. I wont spoil any companion, let me just explain the two soldiers you get at the beginning. You will get a tank and a ranged companion, which you should use that way. Yes, Technomancer is as simple as that. You see the weapon, you know what class the companion is. You cant change it (would be great, but whatever). If a guy has a shield you have to change him into the tank role. A Ranger should be in the ranged role... Yes, there is nothing more to it.

Changing the role of your buddies

You can change the role of your companions, which makes them way more efficient. You simply go to the Active Pause (Tab by standard). Here you can hotkey your skills and some items, but at the very right menu you can change the role of your companions. You can read which role gives what bonuses.

Basically there are this roles.

  • Tank/ Defence
  • Melee attacks
  • Ranged attacks
  • Heal

Also every companion has no role at the start, forget that. Just ignore the no role option. ALWAYS give them a role.

Which companion should I use?
This really is personal taste and what you want to have as Talents. I wont say names, but you will get a companion with +250 carry weight, which is really nice. Other than that choose whatever you like. As a Guard I would choose a companion which can heal or deal damage.

By the way, I always got rid of the Hunter and used Scott instead (The old man which talks to you right after you created your character. You can get him at the slums. He can heal you and he does so very frequently. Also he has a jacket that gives you +1 in science. Equip it after a fight on yourself, it will boost your regeneration.
Which attributes and talents?
Attributes

The attributes should be very clear, you should max out the attribute for your class. You can find it in the description. "This is the most important attribute for..."
Also you should spend one point into Agility, which lets you equip a Worker Shirt, which gives you +1 in Crafting when equipped.

  • Strength enables you to wield stronger weapons and equip heavier armor.
  • Power lets you equip technomancer equipment.
  • Constitution gives you a boost in health and carry capacity. Watch out, 10 health points are not much and I personally think that investing points in constitution is not the best choice.

To the talents:

I always spend my starting point into Charisma . It lets you prevent some fights and gives you extra information, easier quest solutions. After that I spend a point info Lockpicking . You will find many locked chests, now you can open level 1 locks. Tip: Find a Vory Jacket to get one extra point, now you can open most locks. You can spend another point later. Now I would spend another point into charisma, just to make sure I can persuade most people. You can spend another point later in the game.

Wait until you spend your first Crafting point. You Will get the clothing for an additional point really fast... And you dont find or afford the stuff for level 2 crafting anyway. Do it somewhere at round about level 10 or 15. That way you will be fine.

Completly forget about Stealth. I am a stealth lover myself but it isnt worth it. The enemies are always in groups and unless you have maxed it out you can just stealth attack your first enemy... Not worth it.

Exploration works fine with crafting, but dont be too hasty. Check some of the traders, they will sell head gear with +1 in Exploration.
Personal tips and experience
I think that the staff fighting style is pretty hard at the beginning. it used way more potions than the other playstyles, I assume it is because of the slow attack speed. Many people think that the guard is the easiest to play, but I personally think that the Rogue is worth a try. You are very versatile and fast, just dont try to tank anything. As long as you dodge and attack, dodge and attack it will be pretty easy.

Oh and one thing: Use F5 to save. Often. Before every corner. Before every fight. You will save yourself a death and dont have to run alllllllll the wayyyy back to the point where you originally died just to die again and repeat the whole thing.

Good Luck.

Just use a trainer like WeMod or FLiNG trainer or MrAntiFun. Thats what I ALWAYS do. I almost never play without Godmode and Unlimted Ammo ever

"Lightning strike doesnt work very well with a Rogue build, because you will shoot more often (more damage and more shots before reloading)"
Actually it does. The problem with guns is overheating. Mixing guns and Lighting (or other tehno-skills) is a great way to prevent the overheat on one side and the long delay before the skill charge up again.
I usually start with Lighting (because of the longer delay) shoot with guns just before overheat and usually at that point next Lighting is ready. This way my DPS is extremely high (almost no wait delays) and boss fights relatively easy. Let me illustrate that with my fight against Great Mantis (21 seconds):

Great guide. Is there a way to control the character movement speed? It is really difficult to move around, you end up bumping into everything and there is absolutely no need for the run button, when he runs instead of walks? I thought that maybe there is a tweek in the system files somewhere?

Hey Lhetre, one tip: Use the knife and gun. I wanted to replay the game with the focus on only using the staff, but had a REALLY hard time on the queen, but changed to knife + gun and killed her in one fight. Dodge often and use your gun as often as you can on the queen. While the gun reloads (or whatever that timer is) you can focus with the blade on the smaller enemies. Dont forget the queen though. She hits hard, but can damage her minions as well.

Thanks for the guide, you understood quite well why people rage quit.
Combat is definitely hard - in a grindy way, you need to go back and wait for you health to regenerate too often, too many enemies during battle smean you can't develop a valid strategy other than kill one, go back and heal, then come back for another one. Boring. Boss fights use too much RNG. In over ten fights against the mantis queen, only once I could almost kill her, the following time using the same moves and strategy killed me in half the time. I couldn't kill her and quit.
Maybe you guide will help me start again.

CitizenX3639 last time I played it it was pretty hard when you played it the wrong way, but easy as soon as you understand the game.
