A full guide for achieving 100% completion in The Guest, including puzzle solutions, item and newspaper locations and achievement explanations.

Note that formatting may be bizarre in places. It's late and Steam is fighting me nail and teeth on getting text to play nice with images for some reason.

Grasshopper & The Strangers
Listen to some music on the record player.

You'll find the vinyl in the cabinet under the record player. Just pick it up, use it on the record player, and click the record player to turn it on.
Overdose
Try consuming the bath pills again.

Click on the bottle of pills in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom an extra time or two after taking your dose.
New World
Get into the secret room.

After you complete the music puzzle and gain access to the study, flip the light switch. After a few seconds, the door to the secret room will open in the most un-secret way possible, so just walk on in to unlock the achievement.
Memoires
Write BENEFACTOR on the typing machine.

If this was supposed to be a riddle, the description on the achievement kinda spoils it...

You'll need to complete the cryptex puzzle in the bathroom to get the R key, but once you have it just do as it says and type "BENEFACTOR" on the typewriter in the study.
A New Beginning
Get to the end.

Finish the game. Pretty self explanatory. If you need a walkthrough, here's a link to a pretty good one:
The Walkthrough King - The Guest[walkthroughs.homeip.net]
Meet the devs
Locate the Team Gotham's headquarter.

By locate, it means on the globe in the study. This achievement popped by total accident for me as I was connecting the dots between VOL and BOS, but I believe you need to center the pointer on Madrid, Spain for it.

Supervisor
Type the password in the computer.

Once you enter the secret room mentioned above, you'll find a desk with a computer on it. First, you'll need to activate the computer by taking the keycard from the arm of the deskchair and using it in the reader under the desk near the monitor. Use the pad on the desk to enter the current time, which is 4:23 according to the clocks all around the apartment.

The Prophet
Enter the toolbox password without combining the notes.

Do not combine the two pieces of paper you find in the bedroom. You just as easily tell by glancing at the individual scraps that the code is 503. Enter 503 into the lock on the toolbox which you find in the right hand side of the amoire.

Scared of the light
Turn off all the lights.

Again, not much mystery to this one thanks to the achievement description. You should get this one the moment you turn off every single light in the livingroom, bedroom and bathroom. I also closed the doors on any lit puzzles but I don't know that it's necessary.
Always the right time
Try lighting a cigarette.

This will not work until you refill the lighter, which you can do once you find the lighter fluid in the desk drawer in the study. Combine the filled lighter with either of the cigarettes you find laying around the apartment.
Life of the Others
Read all the newspapers.

There's something screwy with this achievement, as many have noted you can find all the newspapers and still not get it the first time. I got it on the second run collecting screens for this guide, so this might be another one of those cases where you need to find them all in one straight shot without loading the game. Good thing it's short.

Here are the locations of the four pieces you'll need to read:

1. In the left side of the bedroom armoire in the box where you find the light bulb (apologies for the low gamma):

2. In the bottom drawer in the bathroom:

3. In the right drawer of the cabinet under the projection screen in front of the livingroom table:

4. Inside the safe that's revealed using the assembled Strange Object:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Complete the music puzzle without failing.

The music puzzle will be available to you after a series of events that allows you to open the safe and get the crank handle to use in the music box on the shelf next to the door leading the study. Place the crank in the music box and it will start repeating a tune. You need to reproduce the tune by pushing the correct buttons in sequence on the keypad that opens up by the door. There's not much to it beyond trial and error, but just be sure to use the clear button on the left to redo it until you get it right. If you echo the tune as it's playing by pressing each button right after each note, it should be super obvious if one's off key. When you're certain you've got it, press enter to open the door.

Somebody there?
Call every single number on the phonebook.

There were a couple things I found confusing when I went to use the phone. One, the tone you get when dailing a number is a busy signal, or at least it is here in the US. When you hear that tone in the US, it's your cue to hang up. In the game, however, this is the sound of the phone ringing. It took me a while just to realize this and wait a few moments for it to answer. Second, you might think that with the 5 and 6 keys switched, pressing 5 is actually dialling 6 and vice versa. Well it's not. The key that says 5 still dials 5, and the key that says 6 still dials 6.

Anyway, here's a list of the numbers I dialed to unlock the achievement. They may not all be necessary, but these are the ones that I used. Again, be sure to wait for an answer of some sort after each number, even though there won't be anyone there for most of them:

00000 (no response)
01000 (no response)
02297 (no response)
03297 (no response)
08297 (no response)
42606 (no response)
48151 (opens the projector trapdoor in the table)
01138 (Not technically in the phonebook, and I'm not sure whether it's required for the achievement, but do not dial it unless you're ready to do the labyrith puzzle)
Do not disturb
Use the sign and don't be disturbed.

You'll find the sign laying on the cabinet under the projection screen in front of the livingroom table. Use it on the locked door leading out of the apartment (may take a few clicks).
The Maintenance Man
Solve the batteries puzzle in just 2 movements.

First you'll need to find 3 batteries scattered around the apartment. See the items guide below for locations. Once you have them, use each of them one at a time on the puzzle to active it (these do not count as movements). Once this is done, it should take exactly two swaps to put them in the correct order:

5V + 20V
5V + 1V
1V + 20V

It which should look like this:

Always thankful
Be thankful twice.

Pray two times at the confession booth:
The Labyrinth

Get through the labyrinth in the dream sequence in one go without choosing a wrong path. (FYI, can't help but point out that if you can choose a wrong path it's not a labyrinth. It's a maze. Labyrinths don't branch. Oh well, who cares, let's move on...)

I don't have much good news for you as far as strategy here. You'll just have to be lucky or persistent because there does not appear to be any way to know the right path until you've taken the wrong ones.

There will be four rooms in the maze where you are given a choice of left or right. It's totally random, so just pick one. You have a 50/50 chance to pick the right one, and you must do this four times. That's a 1 in 16 chance. Suck. If at any point you find yourself back in a room you've already visited, immediately Alt+F4 out of the game and try again. The autosave will start you back in the hallway at the beginning of the dream so you can try again. When you do successfully choose the correct path, you'll eventually reach a corridor with a door laying against the wall that reads "we sience." It may seem like you're going in circles and you'll keep seeing this door over and over, but just keep turning right and after 3 or 4 repeats you'll reach the end.

*A quick side note with a bit of speculation

On my very last playthrough, I stopped to consider the note laying on the table at the start of the dream which shows the escape route from your room. According to the arrows, it would have been left, left, right, left. So I tried it, and it worked on the first try. I'm certain the path's different every time, but what a crazy coincidence. Maybe there's something to it? I don't know. Just speculation. Feel free to try it but don't expect much.
Waiting for the dose
Wait 8 hours and hit the button again.

This can be done even after finishing the game by choosing to continue again after the credits roll. Once you've taken your dose of Amydal from the dispenser in your room at the end of the game, just let the game sit running for 8 more hours. You can just leave it on overnight or running in the background. When you come back, you can once again press the button to get another dose. Take it for the 'cheeve.

Houdini
Complete the valves puzzle in less than 20 movements.

This puzzle in combination with this achievement can be quite the pain. It would appear that it has to be done in a straight run from the beginning of a new game to completing the puzzle without exiting or reloading your game, so the natural strategy of saving before you attempt it and reloading if you fail isn't going to work here. It's also random, so there's no simple solution you can go look up if you're just fed up with it. Bummer. Go for this achievement on a second playthrough if you don't want a stress headache. It only takes a matter of minutes to get back to it when you know what you're doing, so don't worry about it too much.

So here's how the puzzle works: You want all three symbols in the top position (12 o'clock). There are 8 positions around each face, but moving one symbol also moves the next one clockwise to it. Moving the top 1 time moves the bottom right 3 times in the same direction. Moving the bottom right 1 time moves the bottom left 2 times in the same direction. Moving the bottom left 1 time moves the top 1 time in the same direction.

Since it's random I can't give you the answer, but I can give you a simple set of steps to solve it. I've tested this method half a dozen times with random starting positions and it worked every time. If you want to do a test run on paper first though, I suggest getting a full size sheet, drawing 3 circles with marks to match the puzzle, and using paper clips to simulate the movement of the symbols on the faces. Once you've tested it you can write down the exact movements and how many it took.

Alright, here we go, step by step!

I'll refer to the valve positions as 3:00 (pointing right), 6:00 (pointing down), 9:00 (pointing left), and 12:00 (pointing up).

Before we can start, we need to find the 3 valves to enable the puzzle. See the item guide below for locations. Once you have them all, use each valve on its corresponding dial to get the puzzle working. It should look something like this (symbol positions will be random):

Now for the actual solving.

1. Make sure the bottom left symbol is at 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 or 12:00. If it isn't, move it one time in either direction. In this example it's already at 6:00 so no action is needed.

2. Move the top symbol until it is 90 degrees clockwise from the bottom left symbol. In this example the bottom left symbol is at 6:00, so we move the top left symbol once counterclockwise to put it at 9:00:

3. Move the bottom right symbol to 12:00. In this example, the shortest path is to move it 3 times counterclockwise:

4. Move the bottom left symbol to 12:00. In this example, that would be 2 movements clockwise. Just imagine an image below showing the puzzle solved, because the game took it away before I could get a screenshot.

And that should do it. I cannot even fathom how I managed to figure this out, but so far as I can find this will solve any version of this puzzle the game can throw at you.

Other Puzzles - The Criptex Puzzle
The solution to this puzzle lies in the symbols on the Criptex item you find in the study. Each row on the cylinder has two symbols corresponding to rows and columns on the grid with the blue squares under the bathroom counter. The points where these 6 sets of symbols intersect according to the criptex must be blue, and every other point must be turned red.

You can spin any blue tile on the grid to a red symbol that will turn the tiles around it red in different patterns:

  • Vertical line (up to 3 tiles away)
  • Horizontal line (up to 3 tiles away)
  • Plus sign (vertical and horizontal up to 3 tiles away)
  • X (diagonals up to 3 tiles away
  • Box (1 tile in every direction)

This is one of the few puzzles that does not seem to be random. It's been the same on every playthrough I've done or seen done so far. Here's the solution:

Other Puzzles - Opening the safe
First you'll need two rings and the Strange Object. Refer to the item guide above for the locations. Once acquired, combine them all in any order and place them on the solid looking pedestal in the livingroom.

Arrange the rings and strange object so the inscriptions line up:

The painting will fall off the wall, revealing the safe. The code, which you get from using the projector and lining up the code wheel under the cabinet, is DYSTOPIA. Apologies from skipping this part of the process, but the main reason this section is here is because of the above part, where I found out that lining up those patterns can be a major PITA under certain circumstances.

Other Puzzles - Arrival and Exodus Table
The puzzle itself is pretty straightforward but the execution can be a bit obtuse if you don't happen to look at it the right way.

The object is to give it the latitude/longitude for your point of origin and point of destination on the trip that took you here. Refering to the travel info on your luggage, you left Volgograd, Russia, and went to Boston, USA. Using the globe in the study you find these coordinates are 5N 8E and 4N 12W respectively.

First enter the coordinates for your "exodus":

Then enter the coordinates for your arrival:

Other Puzzles - "Turn them off and look for me."
The solution to this puzzle is split into two halves which appear only when every single light in the room is turned off. One half is in the hallway of the livingroom and the other is in the bedroom. They're practically impossible to miss if you look around with the lights completely out.

The solution appears to be the same every time though, so here it is if you need it:

Thank you so much for this guide! By an amazing coincidence, when trying to do Houdini for the third time, I got the exact same starting configuration as you had in your guide :P now all that's left are the Diogenes of Sniope and Life of Others achievements (the game keeps crashing on me when I tab out -_- but I'll get there eventually!)
