Savage Rush Berserker - 50% (can go to 70%) to cast Meteor Strike on kill = tons of damage
By Musa do Verao
Confess, you tried to play a Savage Rush build but c'mon, it is boring as hell.
I've made this build to:
- bring some fun to Savage Rushers;
- bring some democracy to the Red Menace;
- be as fast as a Rally car;
- troll enemies like Neymar;
- kill all the dinosaurs again.

And you can play this build with one hand too. Now you have one free hand to...

Hello
Hello, this is my second guide and I want to share this really fun build with you.
What inspired me to make this was because I wanted to do a Savage Rush build but it is really boring; but with many meteors falling from sky it makes a much more enjoying experience.

Out of the box builds
This is my first "out of the box" build. I created this because TL2 is already saturated with the common builds like Prismatic Bolt build, Poison Outlander, Fire Engineer, etc.

I want to do crazy builds which nobody ever thought about it (and if they thought, they never wrote a guide to share it). I hope you guys enjoy the reading as much as I enjoyed the levelling up and the writing.
  1. Savage Rush Berserker with 50% of chance to cast Meteor Strike
  2. Dual Wielder Berserker with 100% of chance to cast Lightning
Warning
You can treat this guide as if it was a normal Savage Rush guide. Of course, just remove the gems and Netherrealm Swords.
Questions you may have had
How easily can I play this build?
Well, unless you have spent a lot of time grinding this game, this build is kinda gear dependent. You must have:
  • 2 Netherrealm Swords
  • 8 Vyrax’s Heartfire OR Kelton's Rock (or any combination of both if you don’t have OCD hehehhehe)
It is little gear but it is VERY GRINDY to get them. I had to cheat to get one Netherrealm Sword because it just didn’t want to drop; I played countless and countless times Tarroch’s Tomb and nothing.

Is this fun?
Run through your enemies while you drop them one million meteors? Oh yes it is.
Videos to you watch and check if it is worthy your time
Normal playthrough

Boss fight 1 without Savage Rush

Boss fight 2 trolling
Gear
Except for the weapons, you can use whatever, I said WHATEVER you want. Really. I would recommend at least:
  • a high HP because sometimes you will swallow a big punch right in your chest and you need to survive at least one hit to heal yourself and tell the story to your children;
  • Mana regeneration. That’s obvious. You will be channeling Savage Rush 90% of the time, which means 30 mana per second (at level 15) ONLY on one skill. And of course you need extra mana regen to extra skills.

Weapons
The main reason to use the Netherrealm Swords is because it has 4 sockets and it has already 5% to cast Meteor Strike on kill. With 2 is 10%, and with 8 gems is 50%. Which means half of your enemies you proc a Meteor.
You may use other multiple socketed weapons but it will not be as fun.

Update: Actually there is a better setup than 2 netherrealm swords: 2 Smithereens. You have to add a socket to each one though. Use what you find first hehe.
Gems
This is sadness. First of all, unless you have the 8 gems needed, you must complete the Heartfire quest 8 TIMES. I said EIGHT.
There is no way to farm it. I searched a lot and nothing. The good news is that it is 100% of a Vyrax’s Heartfire drop after you kill him.
Now let’s explain the 3 gems you can use:
  • Vyrax’s Heartfire : If you will use this build I guess your weapons will have this gem. It is a 100% drop unlike the next gem.

  • Kelton's Rock : There is a rare chance of this drop after you killed the Netherlord (final boss). The attack speed is useless but with 8 Kelton's Rock you have 16% to cast Fully Heal Self on kill which is INSANE. Good luck farming those though.

The 70% setup
If you do want a 70% chance to cast Meteor Strike here is what you must have (as I mentioned before):
2 Smithereens with 4 Kelton's Rock or Vyrax's Heartfire.
Strength or Focus?
I'm renaming and remaking this section (it was called Stats) because I found interesting things.
First, I'll say now: Focus is infinitely better in this build. Since our build relies on 2 main sources of damage (Savage Rush and Meteor Strike), lets split our explanation.

Savage Rush

The Strength scales our "instant" damage (the one we deal when we strike an enemie) while Focus scales with our Damage over Time. But which one is better?
I did tests and made this table of the average fight time of 10 skeletons on each difficulty. Strength was 995 and Focus 5 at Strength column and Strength was 15 and Focus 995 at Focus column.

As you can clearly see, Focus is much better than Strength. Why? The main reason is that Savage Rush's percentage of Weapon Damage used is low. It starts at 20% and goes to 48% (2% per skill level). It is very, very low. And it needs to be low because it deals 5.6 hit per second. Even so it is not better than the Damage over Time.

It's good to remember that level up Focus allow you to strike your enemie and immediately get out, while level up Strength forces you to stay at close range to your enemie the whole time. On Easy and Normal it may does not matter, but on Veteran and Elite it does.

Meteor Strike

Meteor Strike's damage scales with player level and Focus. We would level up Focus using Meteor Strike or not using it. Since we are, our Meteor Strike will deal a lot more damage.
Skills
Hunter Tree
Battle Rage (15 points)
As you run into large groups of monsters you earn damage and the physical damage received is reduced for each enemie? That’s too great to just don’t maximize.

Blood Hunger (15 points)
While you run through your enemies some of them will eventually hit you. This passive covers that damage as you will constantly heal yourself (of course, only if your health bar isn’t full).

Rampage (15 points)
I love this skill because everyone hates it. I always find a way to use them. Anyway, with 15 points it is 33% to proc it and have 12% Movement Speed (the Attack Speed and Cast Speed are useless).
OBS: I know, 15 points to get 12% Movement Speed maybe is a waste of points, BUT, for the purpose of this build, which is SAVAGE RUSH ALL THE TIME, we have few skills to improve our character, so I can’t afford to not maximize Rampage.

Tundra Tree

Cold Steel Mastery (15 points)
30% Physical Damage? More damage while I run at 200km/h? Yeah, I’m in! Sadly, our Netherrealm Swords don’t have Ice damage so the hugh 90% Ice damage is wasted. RIP.

Shadow Tree

Wolf Shade (15 points)
This summon shines pretty much at bosses; on normal enemies he will not even have a chance to attack because you will have already killed them all. His health stolen to master is huge. Just maximize it.

Savage Rush (15 points)
Our baby <3 . Our main (or not?) damage source. Our F1 car. What can I say?

Shred Armor (15 points)
HEY! WHY ARE YOU USING THIS SKILL? IT DOESN’T PROC WITH SAVAGE RUSH!!
Hey lady, calm down. I thought that too, but if you look at your enemies, you will see the Shred Armor icon above their names. Weirdly enough, this skill doesn’t give you any armor but it does reduce enemie’s armor.

Well, if you followed everything I said you’ll realize that you have 27 points left. Where to put them? Distribute them by yourself on:

Howl
Run into enemies  Howl  Kill’em all. I don’t like it because I would be unprotected during the cast time. But you can do whatever you want, right?

Raze
If you don’t wanna fight bosses for too long you may have Raze to finish them quickly (but you will lose all the fun on trolling them).

Rage Retaliaton
Well, if a enemie strikes you, you can just heal over it. There is no need to have this skill, but again, you do whatever you want.

Shadow Burst
In case you have trouble with your HP, take this for the dangerous moments.

Battle Standard
In case you have trouble with your Mana Regen. Otherwise, skip it.

Red Wolf
I don’t know If Red Wolf procs on Savage Rush. Needs further study.
Aparently, Red Wolf doesn't proc with Savage Rush. Don't use it, then.
A study about Meteor Strike
Currently working on ways to found more information about Meteor Strike.
  • Meteor Strike only procs using Savage Rush from the gems Vyrax's Heartfire and Kelton's Rock, which means that only +X% chance of cast Meteor Strike on KILL does cast Meteor Strike and not +X% chance of cast Meteor Strike from TARGET.
  • Meteor's Strike damage scales with Focus and Player Level. It does not scale with elemental bonuses or Strength (the critical damage of the Meteor is higher with Strength though).
  • It takes 2,3 seconds (or something pretty close to that) to the Meteor to fall (from the proc to the fall on the ground).
  • If you kill a enemie with Meteor Strike, it can proc another Meteor Strike.
  • Its % chance to proc is addictive, which means that every 5% chance to cast Meteor Strike you add, it really adds 5% (it doesn't multiply anything). I did 25 tests (I had the the 2 Netherrealm Swords with 8 Vyrax's Heartfire) and each one had 10 enemies; I counted all the meteors and divided by 25 and the result: exactly 5.
The results ranged from 2 to 10 with 4 and 6 appearing the most.
  • When using "x% chance to cast Meteor Strike from target" each slash of Ravage has a chance to cast Meteor Strike. (check the video)

  • When using "x% chance to cast Meteor Strike from target" each wolf of Wolfpack has a chance to cast Meteor Strike. (check the video)

  • When using "x% chance to cast Meteor Strike from target" each hatchet of Storm Hatchet has a chance to cast Meteor Strike.
  • When using "x% chance to cast Meteor Strike on kill", if a enemie strikes you and get killed by Rage Retaliation, it can proc a Meteor Strike.
  • The damage transferred by Shadowbind NEVER procs any Meteor Strike.
  • Here is a table about Berserker skills and their relation with Meteor Strike:

A study about Savage Rush
Currently working on ways to found more information about Savage Rush
Savage Rush has two types of damage:
  1. Based on Weapon Damage (Inflicts x% of Weapon Damage)
    1.1: Its damage is instant;
    1.2: Attack Speed bonuses don't matter because it takes your Weapon Damage to calculate damage;
1.3: What matter is the Damage of the weapon on your Right Hand (including Physical and Elemental Damage from gems and enchatments).
  2. Based on Focus and Player Level (x Physical Damage over 5 seconds)
2.1: Its damage multiplier by Focus is the half of your Focus. For instante: 500 Focus --> 250% Damage. If you have 2000 physical damage over 5 seconds it will be [2000*3,5] = 7000.
2.2: Its addictive damage by Skill level is weird; it goes up in multiples of 5 (starts at 5, then 10, then go back to 5 for 2 levels, then back to 10 again, then 15... then 135...). There isn't a pattern.
  • Savage Rush deals 5.6 attacks per second (if you stay very close to enemie).
Spells
For you

Dual Wielding
Extra damage for your Savage Rush because you will be using two swords.

Weapon Expertise
More extra damage. Great!

Haste
This is must-have. Really. It lasts X seconds and its cooldown is X seconds, which means Extra Movement Speed FOREVER. Your F1 car is now a rocket.

Armor Expertise
Extra armor because you are not an engineer, right? It doesn’t hurt to be a little more safe.

Concentration
In case you have trouble with Mana Regeneration.

OBS: You may use Adventuring and Treasure Hunter as well while levelling up.

For your pet
The pet is here just for leading the way and get the attention of enemies while you beat the heck out of them.
No big secret, put all the Summon Spells you can find. Perhaps a Heal All tome or Silence for more survivability.
How to play on early levels
There are two ways:
  1. Levelling up the passives you will need in the final build in early levels; getting the skills Wolf Shade and Battle Rage; level up the Savage Rush when you have enough mana regeneration to cast it a lot.
  2. On mid or late-game, respecing you skills and arrange your build like the one in this guide.
If you enabled your console, open it and put: respecpotion .
One potion will pop up in the ground. Repeat this for how many potions you want.

You choose. Torchlight is such a free game. Enjoy it!
Easy way to get the Netherrealm Swords
First, if you don’t have console enabled, enabled it!! https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/85552/how-do-i-enable-the-console
If you don’t want to grind to get those, do this:
  1. Select a level 100 character you have
  2. Press Insert on your keyboard to open the console
  3. In the console put “money #” ; # means the amount of money you want. For instance: money 1000000.
  4. Go to the near Seller of Unidentified Items
  5. Buy all the swords he has
  6. Did you get your Netherrealm Swords? Yes? Then put them on your Shared Stash so your new Berserker can get them
  7. Did you get your Netherrealm Swords? No? Then quit your character.
  8. Select Resume
  9. Select LAN
  10. Select Create a Game and BE SURE TO MARK THE OPTION REROLL WORLD
  11. Select the Green Button (Start Server)
  12. Repeat Step 4 until you get your Swords.
Is this a cheat? Maybe. It depends on you because it is YOUR GAME . I myself did this to get one sword because I couldn’t find the other one.

Nice Guide bro! I was looking for some info about Meteor strike for a berserker remaster mod that I am working on.
