I managed to change earths texture by simply going to Steam/Steamapps/common/Children of a dead earth/recources/textures. There I exchanged the earths texture for some photo from the internet that had the same resolution. Make sure to save a backup for the original earth texture file in another directory. Not all Images I found online were compatible.
