Hello everyone.

This is the complete written guide for you to find all gold keys as you play through the story. I have shown all keys in order of area so you can find them all as you go.

• IMPORTANT:
  Once you exit a door you can't get back in which means if you miss any keys you will have to start the game again, so please read the guide fully for each key before proceeding through any doors.

Starting Cave
The first key is situated inside the cave where you encounter the mini-boss called Arik at the beginning of the game.
 
You will not miss this key as you will need it to open the gate to reach the boss.
Head to the east side of the cave and across the moving platforms and the key will be on the opposite side in front of you.
 
                                       
Uknown Area
This key is not within city walls and can be accessed at another time, but to keep things simple we will collect it right away to avoid missing it.

Once within city walls enter the first door that you come to, this is the door Rene asks you to try out and is the only door within the city walls area.
 
After entering the door clear everything inside and grab the book at the end then exit out through the door, this will bring you to an unknown area which gives you your first ability upgrade.

Within this area head south-west to find a gap that takes you around the back of the mushrooms and then follow the edge around until you come to a moving platform, use the platform to go across and find a hidden key.
 
If you miss this don't worry, try again the next time you grab a book for an ability upgrade.
 
 
Outside North West
For this key you will first need either a Pumpkin Bomb or a Very Strong Hammer, you will acquire these later in the game.
Once you have the right weapons look to the right of the first and only door within city walls, there is a group of pumpkins with a moving platform behind them, blow up or smash the pumpkins then use the platforms and follow it around to find a key.

Outside Quest
On the south-west side you will come across a pumpkin that gives you a quest asking for you to plant sunflower seeds (see the left screenshot below shows for the location).
Go find sunflowers and squash them to gain the seeds from them, once you have enough seeds go back to the pumpkin and walk across the 9 squares surrounding the pumpkin to plant the seeds, once complete you will be given a key as a reward, that is key number 1.
 
 
Crystal Mine
The next key is via crystal mine on the southern part of the map (see the left screenshot below).
You can access the mine via an opening south of the save point nearest the city walls entrance, it will at first be blocked but progress through the story and this area will soon become accessible.
 
Once you're in the mine continue through until you reach another outdoor area, immediately you will see a moving platform below, use the platform to reach the small island which is where the second key is located.
 
 
Door inside Bugslayers Cave
Head to bugslayers cave and inside enter the door, continue through until you reach the second lamp that opens the gate, nearby the lamp is a key situated behind the grass/plants, walk towards the grass/plants and a gap should appear to give you access to the key.

Outside South West
When entering sunny field head south-west just past a door and you will find an orange flower surrounded by brown dirt.
Splat the flower and kill the flies and a key should appear where the plant was located.
 
 
The Middle Door
From the central most door go inside and straight ahead go past the moving platforms and cacti, directly across will be a key surrounded by fast paced purple spiked orbs, that will be key number 2.
 
 
The North Door
From the northern most door go inside and head past the purple spiked orbs, you will then reach red spikes and some blue pipes.
On the opposite side of the pipes you will see the key, to reach the key you can either get blown across to the right and walk up over the red spikes on the far side (as i did shown in the largest screenshot below) or try to make it directly across in front of the blue pipes.

Outside West Trade Post
When entering River head west past the cactus to Someone's Warehouse, when you're at someone's warehouse follow it around to the left and up from the door around the small pool of water, follow along the waters edge until you see three brown blocks that form a bridge, go over the blocks and you will find a key hiding in the trees.
 
 
Outside West
Head to the far west side (shown in the left screenshot below) and there is a small green area just past the woods.
Nearby will be a moving platform that will take you to a small island where you will find the key and a guy that turns into a tree.
                                       
 
Outside North
From the northern most door go left and just past the pumpkin is a key sitting between the trees.
                                            



North Door
Enter the northern most door, proceed through and activate all the green squares in each section, once complete go past the purple spiked orbs and slightly west after the fans to find a small area which contains a key. That is key number 4.
                                       
 
North West Door
Enter the north western door and once inside take all the coins to open up two doors, head south to safety and then go back to clear the area, on the right side another opening will appear with a key inside.
 
 
Middle Door
From the central most door enter and head northeast past the red spikes, behind the trees you will find the key and an explosive chest.

Outside East
As you enter hedgehog pasture head north-east and follow the brown pathway through the forest that's surrounding the door, continue to follow the pathway and north of the door is a key hiding in the trees.
 
 
Outside South Trade Point
When you enter hedgehog pasture head south towards the save point, behind the cooking pot there's a gap through the trees that leads behind the guys camp which is where a key is located..
 
 
Middle Door
Head to the central most door, when you enter follow the path to the first room and then on to the next room containing bugs and cacti, once you have cleared that room look south-east and you will see blue walls and a gap that appears to reveal a moving platform, use the platform to get across to the small island where the key is located right next to a large white tree.
 
 
North East Door NOTE: 2 keys located behind this door.
Enter the north east door and inside you will come to a red pathway, you will get blown down the red the pathway but about half way down on the left side is a moving platform, catch the platform on the way down to find a small area where the key is located.
This can be a little tricky so if you miss the platform you will need to die or reload the save as there is noway back to try again.
 
Continue through and nearby the exit door is a red lamp, use the red lamp and turn it green to unlock the gate next to the exit door, go through the gate and use the moving platforms to reach the island opposite where you will find the key, and be careful as cacti will appear.

Outside Middle
Enter mushroom grove and head south to Erbs House, to the east of his house is a moving platform that will take you to a small island where you will find Mr.Bee's friend.
 
On the island you will find explosive bubbles and red spikes slightly up from the door, there is a key hiding behind the 2 purple mushrooms near the red spikes, it's a little hard to see but you should grab it when you walk through.
                                       
 
Outside North
Head to the northern most door and on the west side of the door is a group of red trees, through the trees is a hidden area containing a key.
                                       
 
Passage to the Hive
Head into the Hive Passage and make your way to the Hive.
Once inside the hive proceed all the way through to the other side where you pick up the glue for Erb, just left of the exit is a small path at the edge of the water where you will find a key.
                                       
 
Door Middle East
Just above Erbs Mushroom House in the central eastern part of the map you will find a small passage leading to a door.
Enter the door and inside you will encounter a large labyrinth, in the northern most part of the labyrinth you will find a key, that will be key number 4.
 
 
Door Middle West
At the central western door, enter and immediately head west through the plants and enemies and you will find the key at the edge of the water between two red lamps.
                                       
 
Door in Erbs Cellar
Enter Erbs Cellar and inside you will find a door, enter the door and once inside clear the first couple of arena type areas, after exiting the second arena type area head east towards the fly spawn and cacti, kill everything and follow the trail around until you reach the purple area, at the purple area head south to find a key surrounded by enemies.

Outside West
On the west side of the save point there is a Mushroom Dwarf just standing there, just past the dwarf is a group of mushrooms that block a pathway, you can either blow them up with a mushroom bomb to access the path or continue the story and the rocks on the brown bridge nearby will eventually be removed allowing you to gain access.
Once you can get through follow the path on the left side next to the water to find a key not too far away.
                                       
 
Only Door
This is the only door in this area, enter the door and head south-west towards the explosive bubbles, pass through them and you will find a key just beyond the lamp next to the cacti spawn.

Outside West
Once you reach the blue forest from Slugs Cave head north until you reach a door next to the small brown bridge, behind the door head west through a gap in the trees and follow the path towards three lamps, light up the lamps in the correct order to unlock the gate and get the key behind it.
                                       
 
Outside North West
From the small village where the save point is located head north-west towards the golden door, from the golden door go directly west towards the open gate next to the water where the brown bridge is connected.
Stand at the gate and head north on the edge of the blue pathway and this will lead you to a gap in the trees with a key hiding behind them.
 
 
West Door
Behind this door you will need a ranged weapon and health pots as there is a lot of cacti spread out on different paths that can hit you from a distance.
Make your way through and after the first two cacti you will reach a junction with three directions to choose from.
Take the west path through the blue ball machines and at the end of the path take the first path on the right and at the end of that path will be a key.
                                       
 
Middle Door
Enter the central door and once inside head right and cut through the purple plants then proceed to head east until you reach the explosive bubbles.
Continue to follow the path around but this time head in the west direction until you reach the red spikes, just above the spikes is the key hidden away in the forest, go around the spikes and up through the gap in the trees to reach the key.
                                       
 
East Door
Enter the east door and inside make your way through each of the three gates by getting the lamp combinations correct.
Once you have unlocked all three gates proceed to light up the remaining lamps in the area, you will eventually find a lamp that removes the red spikes nearby for a short period of time, take that pathway.
Half way along the path you will need to destroy the purple plant that leads to a small area that contains the key, you will have to do this fast before the spikes grow back but you can keep trying again if you fail.
                                       
 
North Door
If you collected all keys as you followed the story then this should be your final key.
Enter the north door and when inside take the north-east passage until you reach the white moving blocks, on the right side of the blocks you will see a lot of cacti and amongst them is the key.
