System Overview
The Mission Point system was created to give additional incentive for winning matches, add some tactical variety to online and offline matches, as well as provide a use for spare cosmetic items.

From a very high level: Players earn Mission Points (MP) by winning matches, earning match awards, and completing randomly assigned Missions. As players earn Mission Points, they'll unlock new Badge levels that will be displayed on their in-game profile and public scoreboard, as well as unlocking rare items that cannot be crafted anywhere else.

Your Mission Badge progress can be viewed from Profile / Mission Badge.

The guide below describes all the details involved in earning these points and how to upgrade badges.
Mission Points
Mission Points are a new stat that you can earn. Mission Points are awarded for the following events:

  • Winning a Team PvP match (4 points)
  • Losing a Team PvP match but being within 20% of the winning score (1 point)
  • Playing in an online match (2 points)
  • Winning a solo bot match against Medium bots (1 point)
  • Winning a solo bot match against Hard bots (2 points)
  • Placing in a FFA match (1st = 4 points, 2nd = 2 points, 3rd = 1 point)
  • Earning the following match-end awards: Most Kills, Best Defense, Most Assists, Final KO (1 point each)
  • Scoring well in Challenge modes (see 'Challenges' section for details)
  • Performing well in Arcade mode (1 point for each round completed, or 10 for winning the whole thing)

Mission Points are also awarded by completing Missions. These are special stat-based challenges that range from the basic, like ‘get 25 catches’ to advanced, like ‘get a Helicopter Dunk’, to very difficult, like ‘Get 3 ninjas in a single life’ or to get the final match KO with a specific skill shot. There are 10 mission slots to unlock, which represent a category of randomized mission. At first, you don’t have any mission slots open - but you’ll unlock a new one with each successive Badge Rank you earn.

These categories are:
  • Rank 1: Basic KOs
  • Rank 2: Powerup KOs (KOs with a specific PowerUp active)
  • Rank 3: Advanced KOs (more difficult skill shots like Ninjas)
  • Rank 4: Special Stats
  • Rank 5: Epic KOs (most difficult skill shots like Godlikes)
  • Rank 6: Combo Skills
  • Rank 7: Showboat Stats
  • Rank 8: Triple KOs
  • Rank 9: Powerup Skill Shots
  • Rank 10: Final KOs

Once you complete a Mission, you earn its attached Mission Point reward, and the mission randomizes to a new Mission of the same category.
Badges

As you earn Mission Points, you unlock the ability to upgrade your Badge. There are 10 ranks and they take progressively more Mission Points to earn.

Your Badge Rank is displayed on the scoreboard, as well as on the end-round awards panel.

And most important, each new Badge Rank you earn unlocks a new Mission Slot, so you can earn Mission Points in more ways and in more interesting / challenging ways.

To upgrade your badge, go to Profile / Mission Badge. You’ll see your current Badge as well as your progress towards your next Badge. When ready, the Upgrade Rank button will light up.

Badges are handled as Steam inventory items, in part to make it harder to fake your badge rank. When upgrading a badge, you will need to spend progressively more Dodgecoins.

Here are the requirements for each badge level:

  • Rank 1: 30 MP
  • Rank 2: 80 MP, 1 Dodgecoin
  • Rank 3: 185 MP, 2 Dodgecoins
  • Rank 4: 360 MP, 4 Dodgecoins
  • Rank 5: 650 MP, 6 Dodgecoins
  • Rank 6: 1125 MP, 8 Dodgecoins
  • Rank 7: 2000 MP, 10 Dodgecoins
  • Rank 8: 3125 MP, 12 Dodgecoins
  • Rank 9: 5000 MP, 15 Dodgecoins
  • Rank 10: 7500 MP, 20 Dodgecoins

Dodgecoins
This is a new item that is required to craft higher-level badges. You can convert any Advanced Crafting Component directly into a Dodgecoin. Similarly, all common cosmetic items except for decals, such as Faces and Glasses, can be converted directly into 1 Dodgecoin each.

Specifically, go to your in-game inventory, then select one of your advanced crafting pieces, or any Faceplay or Glasses. You'll see an option to 'Craft into Dodgecoin'.

As of Update 8.2, 15 dodgecoins can also be combined to create a guarenteed rare+ item drop. Click on the dodgecoin stack in your inventory, and select "Craft rare+ item." This gives you a much better chance of getting a high value item than by crafting with 5 advanced parts(chances: Rare 65%, Epic 25%, Legendary 10%).

Dodgecoins can not be sold on the Steam Marketplace, but they can be traded with other players.

Restrictions
It's important with this system to not create incentives for actions that would disrupt normal gameplay. Similarly, since match settings are so flexible, it would be easy to set up matches that allow you grind out MP at a rate that makes them meaningless. So there are certain protections added to make sure MP are earned in a fair manner that doesn't interfere with the core gameplay.

  • Players that switch from the losing team (or from spectators) to a winning team, when the winning team is more than halfway to the score limit, are ineligible for MP victory bonus points or any 'Final KO' mission progress.
  • Players that are on spectators or have 0 kills and 0 score are ineligible for round-end victory points, to prevent idling.
  • Many missions and victory points can only be awarded in Regulation Matches. This means: Is not a custom mode, has 6 or more (human or bot) players, and has a score limit that is at least as high as the default score limit for each mode.
  • Mission Points and Mission Progress can not be earned in Local Multiplayer.
  • KOs in the 'Juggernaut' challenge will not advance missions, due to the fact that the player is invincible and there are many enemies, making it too easy to farm missions.

Important Notes
When you complete a mission, the MP is credited to you immediately. So there is no harm caused by you or the match host quitting or resetting the match early - you will not lose this progress. All you miss is the animations that show the progress you had made.

End-round Mission Points are awarded the instant the match is over. So if you do not advance to the Mission Point Progress screen to view the animation, or the match resets early, you do not miss out on your bonus points.
Challenges
Solo Challenges provide bonus mission points based on your performance. A 'Good' score awards 1 MP, a 'Great' score awards 2 MP, and an 'Amazing' score awards 3 MP. The requirements for each rating are different for each mode, and are as follows (in the format Good, Great, Amazing)

  • Horde: 1000, 3500, 5000
  • Juggernaut: 2500, 5000, 7000
  • Air Raid: 3000, 6000, 8000
  • Fugitive: 40, 90, 120
  • Duck Hunter: 1000, 2500, 3500
  • Pinball: 500, 1000, 1200
  • Teamwork: 5, 10, 15

Note: no mission points are currently awarded for Time Trials mode, although this may change in the future.
Troubleshooting
Can't upgrade or craft 1st level badge

Because the 1st badge is technically a 'promo item' (in order to ensure that players can only ever have one badge at a time), it won't grant to accounts that are playing the game via Steam library sharing.

I feel like the MP requirements to level up are too high and take way too long to reach. As someone who has gotten to Rank 10, I think they should be reduced by around 30-50%.

"Placing in a FFA match (1st = 4 points, 2nd = 2 points, 3rd = 1 point)"

Having played default FFA matches for a bit, it seems that only FFA tank and score modes come with MP-award for placing.

Eugen, if you're going to want Dodgecoins, you can get them from crafting Glasses, Decal, an advanced crafting materials. You only get 1.

I'm pretty new to this game. How exactly do i obtain the Dodgecoins? Do i need to buy some crafting items on the market / play enough to get them dropped?
Erik Asmussen  [author] 8 Jan, 2017 @ 4:36pm
I responded in your forum post, but for anyone else having the issue, badges don't work if you're playing the game on a friends and family library sharing mode. I'm guessing that's what's happening - but I'll update the guide to be clear.
