Before you start....
Be advised that GoE is early access at the this time and all content within this guide is subject to change. (GoE is the abbreviated form of Guardians of Ember)
General information
Q:What is Guardians of Ember?

A:Guardians of Ember is an MMOARPG (think diablo + wow) with deep and complex character progression. Planning your build is key to success and a large part of the game.

Q:What kind of character customization is there?

A: When creating your character you are given the choice of 4 races (human, elf, dwarf, and jail bait) and 6 classes.(knight, priest, arcanist, engineer, ranger, and dark knight) (5 at this stage of early access as dark knight is currently unavailable) When your player house is accessible you can choose a second class. (While your second class can be changed for free from the player house at your leisure, each secondary class must be leveled seperately. Primary class cannot be changed.)

Q:What's the difference between a knight/priest and a priest/knight. Or a engineer/ranger and a ranger/engineer. Etc.

A: The main difference between a primary and secondary class is a character maY only use passives from its primary class. So knight/priest can only use knight passives, while a priest/knight may only use priest passives.

Q: Is it pay to win?

A: While the game will feature micro transactions for items such as costumes, mounts, skill resets, and inventory space all of these are already earnable in game fairly easily.(save costumes which may still be earnable i just can't confirm that they are myself)

Q:Are there other important parts of character advancements?

A: Every primary class level you will earn 3 attribute points and one primary class skill point. Every secondary class level will net you a secondary class skill points. (Primary class skill points can only be spent on primary class skills)

Q:Is it faster to grind or quest.

A: It depends on the class and your build. Also unless you are an avid grinder I reccomend questing on your first toon and enjoying the story as it helps keep your interest in the game peaked.
General Skill and Attribute information
At certain milestone levels your character will unlock new skills. These will be the base versions usually with very simple effects such as increased damage. As you invest skill points into the "nodes" of a given skill you will unlock more advanced versions of said skill that may increase damage Or they may change the funtion of the skill entirely. .

But what are nodes? Nodes are the bubbles inbetween skill variations. Each node has 2 choices. These options effect many different aspects of your character. As an example here are two node choices and Choose wisely as you will need to use a reset to change your node choice. It should also be noted that you do not need to have the skill equiped to benefit from the node bonuses. So if you are trying to stack block chance or critical hit chance it may be worth investing in those types of nodes even if you don't use the skill itself.

Now in regards to attributes GoE may take some getting used to. GoE does not use the basic stats that other games use such as: strength, agility, intellect, wisdom, spirit, etc....
Instead of this large list of attributes GoE has four attributes that encompass most of the functionality you would see in the old attribute system. These attributes are Blood, Focus, Prestige, and Bravery. The specific bonuses of each is shown below. Also while you may want to invest all or most of you points into 2 attributes you should very much consider having some points in each attribute. This is because of deminishing returns. For example (First point in bravery gives you +5% dmg 2nd +3% and so on and with only 15 you have +18%) [Thank you to Nebucadneza for pointing this out to me]

yes by 3 years come december. It was made as part of a contest, which I had won (Make a guide that makes it into the top 5) but never received the reward for. One of the main reasons I stopped playing. Devs and publishers (including the current one) that don't care about player base, change monetization on the drop of a dime. I bought a big founders pack that was supposed to have inventory expansions for all my characters, but with gameforge its now only 1 character even though that's not what it was sold as. (Screenshots were provided in a thread showing the old sales page.) This also isn't the only contest where rewards weren't given to the winners such as some of the runners up for the ironman challenge never got their consolation prizes either. And now with f2p and gimped founders packs there is no reason for any of the older player base to stay.

Sweet Nebucadneza, I didn't even think about that. I'll go ahead and add that.

Add the something about diminishing returns to the stats section.
I constantly see people that put all their points in 1 or maybe 2 stats and suffer from bad performance. Atleast put 15(minimum10) points in all stats to get the most value per point. (First point in bravery gives you +5% dmg 2nd +3% and so on and with only 15 you have +18%)
Also the skilltree abilitys are %based so you can spend points into ability just for the node effect while use a basic skill that has maybe lower dmg but your overall performance is better cause of the node effects.
